Transferability and Hardness of Supervised Classification Tasks [PDF]
We propose a novel approach for estimating the difficulty and transferability of supervised classification tasks. Unlike previous work, our approach is solution agnostic and does not require or assume trained models.

Effect of Oil – Corrosion on Tensile and Fatigue S-N Curve Properties of AA6061-T6 [PDF]
The present study described the effect of shot peening on mechanical properties and rotating corrosion –fatigue behavior (strength and life) of AA6061-T6. Ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and yield stress (YS) were reduced by 4.6% and 1.24% when immersing

Hardness-Aware Deep Metric Learning [PDF]
This paper presents a hardness-aware deep metric learning (HDML) framework. Most previous deep metric learning methods employ the hard negative mining strategy to alleviate the lack of informative samples for training.

Comparison of the effects of MoSi2 and CrSi2 on sintering and properties of titanium diboride (TiB2) [PDF]
Titanium diboride (TiB2) is a typical material classified as structural ceramics. However, sintering of TiB2 ceramics is difficult mainly because of a significant fraction of covalent bonds in the structure. In order to obtain dense TiB2 ceramics various

The Hall–Petch and inverse Hall–Petch relations and the hardness of nanocrystalline metals
We review some of the factors that influence the hardness of polycrystalline materials with grain sizes less than 1 µm. The fundamental physical mechanisms that govern the hardness of nanocrystalline materials are discussed.

We study the computational complexity of the popular board game backgammon. We show that deciding whether a player can win from a given board configuration is NP-Hard, PSPACE-Hard, and EXPTIME-Hard under different settings of known and unknown opponents' strategies and dice rolls. Our work answers an open question posed by Erik Demaine in 2001.

Soft-Tissue-Mimicking Using Hydrogels for the Development of Phantoms
With the currently available materials and technologies it is difficult to mimic the mechanical properties of soft living tissues. Additionally, another significant problem is the lack of information about the mechanical properties of these tissues ...
