Polarimetric Calibration of Large-Aperture Telescopes II: The sub-aperture method
A new method for absolute polarimetric calibration of large telescopes is presented. The proposed method is highly accurate and is based on the calibration of a small sub-aperture, which is then extended to the full system by means of actual observations

Warming summers limit reindeer grazing, weakening herbivory pressure in the mountain tundra
Climate change is predicted to alter species interactions by exposing ecosystems to increasingly frequent and intense warm spells. In the mountain tundra, grazing by large herbivores, particularly reindeer, can limit shrub expansion and preserve Arctic plant diversity.

Parasite load of European brown hares in Austria and the Czech Republic
The parasite load of brown hares (Lepus europaeus) is of great interest to hunting ground managers and veterinarians. We compared the prevalence and intensity of parasitic infections in 362 hares from Austria and the Czech Republic with respect to age ...

Abstract Large clinical data underscore that heart failure is independently associated to an increased risk of negative cognitive outcome and dementia. Emerging evidence suggests that cerebral hypoperfusion, stemming from reduced cardiac output and vascular pathology, may contribute to the largely overlapping vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease ...

Hybridization with mountain hares increases the functional allelic repertoire in brown hares
Brown hares (Lepus europaeus Pallas) are able to hybridize with mountain hares (L. timidus Linnaeus) and produce fertile offspring, which results in cross-species gene flow.

The strong and the hungry: Bias in capture methods for mountain hares (Lepus timidus). [PDF]
Estimating density, age and sex structure of wild populations is a key objective in wildlife management. Live trapping is frequently used to collect data on populations of small and medium-sized mammals.

Playing and aggressive behavior of the European hare (Lepus europaeus) against dogs (Canis familiaris) [PDF]
The aggressive and playing behavioral relationships between the European hare and dogs are described here. In all cases, hares demonstrated provocative behavior — they provoked the dogs to chase them, and, seeing the dogs’ fear and hesitancy, even ...

Exploitative Competition between Mountain Hare and Moose—Qualitative Effects on Hare Winter Forage?
Mountain hares (Lepus timidus) in Scandinavia are classified as Near Threatened in the Norwegian and Swedish Redlists. This is due to a possible population decline witnessed during the last decades in Scandinavia. Competition between large herbivores and

Problems of reintroduction and introduction of hares (Leporidae) in the Russian Federation
Biodiversity is not only the wealth and beauty of our world, it is the interdependence and mutual influence of all its parts on each other. Hares are a kind of link in the ecosystem.
