Interplanetary frontiers: terraforming from an invasion science perspective

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
The pursuit of a multi‐planetary existence represents one of humanity's greatest frontiers. If applied justly, it offers an opportunity to extend its civilization's lifespan amid escalating sustainability crises on Earth. One approach increasingly gaining traction is terraforming, a hitherto theoretical ecological and evolutionary experiment revolving ...

Forecasting the impact of food‐provisioning and other stressors on a marine top‐predator population

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Wildlife tourism can alter animal behavior, affect vital rates and diminish population viability but its impact in the context of other human‐ and environmental disturbances, remain largely unstudied. Using simulation models and leveraging a robust long‐term dataset spanning eight years, we evaluated the contribution of wildlife feeding, in the context

Toxic Effects of Prodigiosin Secreted by Hahella sp. KA22 on Harmful Alga Phaeocystis globosa

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Application of algicidal compounds secreted by bacteria is a promising and environmentally friendly strategy to control harmful algal blooms (HABs). Years ago prodigiosin was described as an efficient algicidal compound, but the details about the effect ...

Resource competition between buoyancy‐regulating and sinking phytoplankton species along a stratified water column

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
In temperate lakes, plankton dynamics are closely linked to seasonal shifts in water stratification, following air temperature. The onset of summer stratification typically coincides with the formation of an algal spring bloom in the well‐mixed surface layer (epilimnion).

Mapping Harmful Algae Blooms: The Potential of Hyperspectral Imaging Technologies

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Harmful algae blooms (HABs) pose critical threats to aquatic ecosystems and human economies, driven by their rapid proliferation, oxygen depletion capacity, toxin release, and biodiversity impacts. These blooms, increasingly exacerbated by climate change,
