Improved Genetic Algorithm-Based Harmonic Mitigation Control of an Asymmetrical Dual-Source 13-Level Switched-Capacitor Multilevel Inverter

open access: yesEnergies
A single-phase multilevel inverter with a switched-capacitor multilevel (SC-MLI) configuration is developed to provide 13-level output voltages. An improved genetic algorithm (GA) with adaptive mutation and crossover rates is employed to achieve robust ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Accurate and Efficient Harmonic Estimation for LCC-HVDC Systems

open access: yesEnergies
Modern grids’ dual-high characteristics elevate the role of wideband impedance measurement in operational risk assessment. In thyristor-based line-commutated converter-based high-voltage direct-current (LCC-HVDC) systems, where severe waveform distortion

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

A Chirp-Rate-Tunable Microwave Photonic Pulse Compression System for Multi-Octave Linearly Chirped Microwave Waveform

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
A chirp-rate-tunable microwave photonic pulse compression system for multi-octave linearly chirped microwave waveform (LCMW) is proposed in this paper. The key components are a dual-parallel Mach–Zehnder modulator (DPMZM) and a dispersive loop (DL)

Experimental evidence for dynamic friction on rock fractures from frequency‐dependent nonlinear hysteresis and harmonic generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Frictional properties affect the propagation of high‐amplitude seismic waves across rock fractures and faults. Laboratory evidence suggests that these properties can be measured in active seismic surveys, potentially offering a route to characterizing ...

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.
