Hemp Cultivation and Crop Diversification: Implications for Ecosystem Services in Kentucky

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the ecosystem benefits of expanding hemp cultivation by assessing its impact on crop diversity. Using scenario‐based simulations and fixed‐effect panel regressions with county‐level data in Kentucky, we find that increased hemp acreage tends to enhance crop diversity, improving water quality and bird diversity.

Delay of Cucumber Senescence and Life‐Extending Capabilities on Caenorhabditis elegans With the Postharvest Application of Sorbitol and Methyl Salicylate

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Methyl salicylate and sorbitol were taken as coating agents. Caenorhabditis elegans was taken as an animal model. The coated agents were applied in C. elegans. The life span study in C. elegans proves the authenticity of MS and SL. MS and SL extended the post‐harvest life of cucumber for 14 days.

Guidelines for High‐Throughput Screening for Natural Products With Anti‐Aging Activity Based on Drosophila Intestinal Homeostasis

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aging represents a critical risk factor for chronic diseases, driving an urgent demand for interventions promoting healthy longevity. This study establishes standardized guidelines for high‐throughput screening (HTS) of anti‐aging natural products using Drosophila melanogaster, leveraging its intestinal homeostasis as a biomarker.

Automated Alignment Powered by Computer Vision Streamlines the Two‐Photon Polymerization‐Based Micro 3D Printing of Multiscale and Multimaterial Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Two‐photon polymerization enables high‐resolution microfabrication, but performing alignment when printing multiple structures is difficult. Here, we present a fast, robust, and open‐source protocol for automated alignment on Nanoscribe systems. Achieving ≈0.4 μm accuracy in under 5 s, our protocol reduces time and error in multimaterial printing. This

Smart Denture with Embedded Thin‐Film Temperature Sensors Patterned by Femtosecond Laser Pulse for Elderly Healthcare

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
We demonstrate the direct‐laser patterning of a gold thin film on polymethyl methacrylate to fabricate a temperature sensor for dentures. The temperature sensor‐embedded smart dentures are evaluated in an oral environment, enabling in‐situ monitoring for elderly healthcare.

Stochastic Locomotion Emerging From Body–Environment Interactions in a Mexican Jumping Bean–Inspired Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Inspired by the Mexican jumping bean, this study presents a centimeter‐scale, electronics‐free robot that merges principles from both the animal and plant kingdoms. A thermo‐responsive actuator mimicking larval motion, enclosed within a uniquely shaped plant‐seed‐inspired shell, generates jumping, rolling, flipping, sliding, and climbing through ...

Lost ground, lost value: Investigating the relationship between soil erosion and agricultural land value

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines the impact of soil erosion on agricultural land values in the United States (US) Midwest. Based on a novel county‐level panel data set with information on soil erosion levels and agricultural land values covering five census years (1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017), we separately investigate the direct effect of two types ...
