The TaRNS4–TaPP2C10 module regulates wheat resistance to stripe rust through RNA degradation and MAPK cascades

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
In wheat, phosphorylation of the S‐like RNase TaRNS4 mediated by the kinase TaRLK5 promotes its degradation of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici RNA in the apoplast, enhancing resistance to stripe rust. TaRNS4 can hijack phosphatase TaPP2C10 to relieve its dephosphorylation of TaMAPK6, thereby activating MAPK‐mediated immune responses. ABSTRACT RNase

Efficiency of RNAi‐based gene silencing in fungi: a meta‐analysis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Mechanistic interpretation of RNAi efficiency across fungal lifestyles and delivery strategies based on the present meta‐analysis. Summary RNA interference (RNAi) shows great potential to protect crops against fungal diseases, yet reported protection efficiencies vary greatly, and our understanding of the factors responsible for this variance remains ...

Subversion of plant endomembrane trafficking by a Plasmodiophora brassicae effector PbALE that recruits membrane components at the host–pathogen interface to aid in colonization

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Schematics of ΔSPPbALE‐induced disruption of plant endomembrane trafficking impairs both preinvasive and postinvasive immunity against filamentous fungi and facilitates intracellular colonization by Plasmodiophora brassicae. Summary Plasmodiophora brassicae, an intracellular biotrophic protist that causes clubroot in crucifers, extensively alters the ...

Abscisic acid and the antioxidant system are involved in germination of Butia capitata seeds

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2018
Seed germination is an important step for plants without vegetative propagation and is a physiological process that begins with specific environmental cues resulting in biochemical responses. Breaking-dormancy is necessary to study germination in dormant

Modulation of Anaphase‐Promoting Complex Genes Regulates Root‐Knot Nematode Gall Development and Plant Susceptibility

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The anaphase‐promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) is a multi‐subunit E3 ubiquitin ligase that regulates cell cycle progression, but its role in plant‐pathogen interactions is poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that regulation of the ubiquitin–proteasome system, involving APC/C‐associated components, is critical for coordinating host cell ...

Developmental and cytochemical studies of the endosperm chalazal haustorium of Rhinanthus serotinus (Scrophulariaceae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We examined the development of the endosperm chalazal haustorium of Rhinanthus serotinus, using histochemical assays and light and electron microscopy. The chalazal haustorium is a huge single cell containing two enlarged nuclei.

Broomrape weeds. Underground mechanisms of parasitism and associated strategies for their control: a review.

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2016
Broomrapes are plant-parasitic weeds which constitute one of the most difficult-to-control of all biotic constraints that affect crops in Mediterranean, central and eastern Europe, and Asia.

Transcriptome analysis of mistletoe (Viscum album) haustorium development

open access: yes, 2014
The haustorium is a specific organ for penetration of host tissue in parasitic plants. To better understand the molecular mechanisms of the establishment of host-parasite relationships using gene expression profiles, early stage haustorium germination ...

CRISPR gene editing to improve crop resistance to parasitic plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Genome Editing, 2023
Parasitic plants pose a significant threat to global agriculture, causing substantial crop losses and hampering food security. In recent years, CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) gene-editing technology has emerged as a ...
