Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Mixed-effects neural network modelling to predict longitudinal trends in fasting plasma glucose

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology
Background Accurate fasting plasma glucose (FPG) trend prediction is important for management and treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), a globally prevalent chronic disease.

Development and preliminary evaluation of the Chinese adult dietary behavior scale

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundThere is currently no widely accepted multidimensional tool to assess adult dietary behaviors in China. This study developed the Chinese Adults Dietary Behavior Scale (CADBS) to evaluate Chinese adults’ eating-related traits and preliminarily ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

A multistate transition model for survival estimation in randomized trials with treatment switching and a cured subgroup

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology
Although many methods have been proposed on the overall survival estimation in randomized trials permitting treatment switching after the progressive disease (PD), the cured subgroup of patients within these trials has not been fully considered.

HBsAg and anti-HBs coexistence in patients with HBV in acute and chronic phases

open access: yesVirus Research
HBsAg and anti-HBs coexistence represents an unusual serological pattern in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. However, its natural course remains unclear.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Preschool children’s eating behaviors and caregivers’ feeding practices in relation to children’s weight in China: a network analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine
Objective This study aimed to characterize the interactions between preschool children’s eating behaviors and their caregivers’ feeding practices, and to compare these patterns across underweight, normal weight, and overweight/obesity groups using a ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Altered regional brain activity and functional connectivity in relation to blood lead levels

open access: yesEnvironmental Sciences Europe
Background Lead is a prevalent heavy metal pollutant in the environment, and chronic lead exposure in occupational settings has been linked to cognitive decline. Our objective was to delineate lead-induced changes in brain functional activity through the
