Evaluation of the potential pathogenic risk of domestic Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli based on their virulence gene combination

open access: yesZhongguo shipin weisheng zazhi
ObjectiveThe pathogenic potential of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) isolated from different sources in China was classified to provide reference for risk management of STEC.MethodsThis study used hazard classification method, porposed by ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Integrating asthma hazard characterization methods for consumer products

open access: yes, 2014
Despite extensive study, definitive conclusions regarding the relationship between asthma and consumer products remain elusive. Uncertainties reflect the multi-faceted nature of asthma (i.e., contributions of immunologic and non-immunologic mechanisms ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Preface: Linking faults to seismic hazard assessment in Europe

open access: yes, 2018
The title of this special issue, “Linking faults to seismic hazard assessment in Europe”, is the result of a challenging experiment that we have been carrying out for a few years: creating a working group of field geologists, fault modellers, data ...

Advancing quantitative hazard banding using expanded probabilistic reference doses and high-throughput screening data for preliminary hazard assessment

open access: yesNAM Journal
Data unavailability in health reference values poses a significant challenge in chemical risk assessment. Hazard banding (HB) offers a practical solution by categorizing chemicals into bands that represent increasing levels of health hazard. However, the

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Multi-Hazard Response Characterization of Tall Buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The series of recent extreme weather events and subsequent damage to the infrastructure has led to an increased concern regarding the design of structural systems for multi-hazard criteria.
