From Data to Knowledge to Wisdom: Lessons Learned From the Vancouver Rat Project

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
A synthesis of 15 years of research conducted by the Vancouver Rat Project revealed that: (1) Pathogen ecology within rat colonies is the result of complex interactions among rats, pathogens, and vectors. (2) Local and global population structures influence rat and pathogen ecology.

Testicular histopathology and its association with germ cell numbers, serum concentrations of reproductive hormones, and semen quality

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background It is well‐established that spermatogenesis, semen quality, and reproductive hormones are interlinked. It is, however, less well‐described how various specific testicular histopathologies are linked to reproductive hormones and semen quality.

Dialogue between Blastocyst hCG and Endometrial LH/hCG Receptor: Which Role in Implantation?

open access: yes, 2007
peer reviewedThe specific interaction of blastocyst-derived human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and endometrial LH/hCG-R constitutes a fundamental component of the molecular dialogue at the materno-fetal interface.

Semen quality in patients with testicular cancer is associated with age and with greatly elevated levels of beta human chorionic gonadotropin

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Poor semen quality is a well‐known feature in patients with testicular germ cell tumours (GCTs) at the time of diagnosis but the underlying biological reasons are incompletely understood. Objectives This study aimed to identify GCT‐specific clinical factors that are involved with poor semen quality in GCT patients.

Hyperglycosylated hCG and Placenta Accreta Spectrum

open access: yes, 2018
Objective We aimed to evaluate the relationship between hyperglycosylated human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG-H) and placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

Identification of MEF2A, MEF2C, and MEF2D interactomes in basal and Fsk‐stimulated mouse MA‐10 Leydig cells

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Myocyte enhancer factor 2 transcription factors regulate essential transcriptional programs in various cell types. The activity of myocyte enhancer factor 2 factors is modulated through interactions with cofactors, chromatin remodelers, and other regulatory proteins, which are dependent on cell context and physiological state.

Performance of qualitative urinary hCG assays

open access: yes, 2014
Significant differences in the sensitivity of eight frequently used qualitative urine human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) tests in Belgium were observed in this study.

Cryopreservation of Spermatozoa Prior and Post‐Orchiectomy in Patients With Testicular Germ Cell Cancer—Does the Timing Matter?

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Testicular germ cell cancer (TGCC) is the most frequent malignancy in young men of reproductive age. According to guidelines, semen cryopreservation should be performed prior to orchiectomy. Lack of time and local facilities as well as mental pressure are challenges in terms of fertility preservation before surgery.

A cost analysis of hCG trigger alone versus dual trigger for achieving live birth following in vitro fertilization

open access: yesReproduction and Fertility
Lay summary: In this study, we wanted to explore if adding gonadotropin agonist (GnRHa) to the standard use of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for triggering egg maturation in in vitro fertilization (IVF) could be a more cost-effective option.
