HCG-Positive Seminoma [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Urology, 1993
Publisher Summary This chapter examines the different aspects of HCG positive seminoma. The contrary statements about the prognosis of HCG-positive seminoma lead to severe insecurities about adequate treatment. The course of HCG-negative seminomas from 14 co-operating hospitals was recorded retrospectively to compare them with HCG-positive cases.

Hyperglycosylated hCG

Placenta, 2007
Hyperglycosylated hCG (hCG-H) is a glycosylation variant of the hormone hCG. Here we review all that is known about this independently functioning molecule. As discussed, it is a very different molecule to the hormone hCG. First, hCG-H is produced by cytotrophoblast cells while regular hCG is made in syncytiotrophoblast cell. Second, it is an autocrine

The quagmire of hCG and hCG testing in gynecologic oncology

Gynecologic Oncology, 2009
Few molecules have created so much confusion as the hCG series of molecules. Here we present a comprehensive review of hCG as a tumor marker, of hCG and cancer and modern perspectives on the multiplicity of hCG, and its appropriate use in the management of gynecological malignancies and gestational trophoblastic diseases.

Total hCG tests

Clinica Chimica Acta, 2011
There are 12 types of automated total hCG tests sold today, the Abbott Architect, Abbott AxSym, the Beckman Access 2. Beckman DxI 800, the Ortho Vitros EciQ, Roche Elecsys hCG+β, Siemens ACS180, Siemens Centaur, Siemens Dimension, Siemens Immulite and Siemens Stratus, and the Tosoh A1A. All tests claim to be total hCG tests but do not define what total

Hyperglycosylated hCG, a review

Placenta, 2010
Hyperglycosylated hCG (hCG-H) is a glycoprotein with the same polypeptide structure as hCG, and much larger N- and O-linked oligosaccharides. The oligosaccharides increase the molecular weight of hCG from 36,000 - 37,000 u to 40,000 - 41,000 u, depending on the extent of hyperglycosylation.

Familial hCG Syndrome

Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 2012
An explanation is needed for why some men and women show positive in hCG screening tests when they are not pregnant, do not have cancer and are otherwise asymptomatic. In this study, a total of 10 families comprising 30 persons with a history of positive hCG tests were investigated.

Hyperglycosylated hCG: A variant with separate biological functions to regular hCG

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2007
Hyperglycosylated hCG (hCG-H) is an over-glycosylated variant of hCG. While regular hCG is produced by differentiated syncytotrophoblast cells, hCG-H is independently secreted by stem cytotrophoblast cells. hCG-H has an independent function to regular hCG. It is the direct promoter of trophoblast invasion and malignancy.
