Energy deposition by H and He ions at keV energies in self-supporting, single crystalline SiC foils

open access: yes, 2022
The specific energy deposition of H and He ions in SiC has been studied for both random and channeling orientations. The experiments were carried out in transmission geometry using the Time-of-Flight Medium Energy Ion Scattering System at the 350 keV ...

Angular Dependence of Ionoluminescence for Silica Case

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics, 2020
The paper deals with angular dependence of ionoluminescence from transparent glossy silica samples. We measured silica ionoluminescence spectra at wavelength range of 400–700 nm for different projectiles (H1+, H2+, He+ 210 and 420 keV) and registered two

Galileo’s Mechanics of Natural Motion and Projectiles

open access: yes, 2017
This article examines Galileo’s ideas about the mechanics of natural motion and projectiles. Among the subjects in mechanics considered by Galileo, the most important are ‘natural motion’, the descent of falling bodies including on inclined planes, and ...

Water balloon-induced orbital fracture in an aviator

open access: yesMilitary Medical Research, 2019
Background Orbital fractures are common injuries found in facial trauma. Typical etiologies of orbital fractures include motor vehicle collisions and assault. We report the case of a 32-year-old male who suffered an orbital fracture from a water balloon.

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

An AI‐Enabled All‐In‐One Visual, Proximity, and Tactile Perception Multimodal Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Targeting integrated multimodal perception of robots, an AI‐enabled all‐in‐one multimodal sensor is proposed. This sensor is capable of perceiving three types of modalities, including vision, proximity, and tactility. By toggling an ultraviolet light and adjusting the camera focus, it switches smoothly between multiple perceptual modalities, enabling ...

Failure and Ejection Behavior of Concrete Materials under Internal Blast

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
In order to investigate the failure and ejection behavior of concrete materials under internal blast, the default Riedel-Hiermaier-Thoma (RHT) concrete model in AUTODYN and a meshfree processor called SPH are employed in this numerical simulation.

Are Further Cross Section Measurements Necessary for Space Radiation Protection or Ion Therapy Applications? Helium Projectiles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The helium (⁴He) component of the primary particles in the galactic cosmic ray spectrum makes significant contributions to the total astronaut radiation exposure. ⁴He ions are also desirable for direct applications in ion therapy. They contribute smaller

Cross‐Scale Hierarchical Targeted Delivery System Based on Small‐Scale Magnetic Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article reviews a cross‐scale hierarchical targeted delivery system that integrates magnetic continuum robots and magnetic microrobots. By combining rapid long‐range navigation with precise microscale targeting, the system overcomes key limitations of single‐scale approaches.

Investigation of the Structural Failure of Penetration Projectiles

open access: yes, 2010
Structural failure of penetration projectiles is investigated in this paper. Normal and oblique penetration tests of small-scale projectiles into concrete targets are performed at impact velocities in the range of 620∼820 m/s.
