European Head and Neck Society recommendations for head and neck cancer survivorship care

open access: yes, 2022
Survivors of head and neck cancer can experience long-term consequences of the cancer and subsequent treatments even after the cancer has resolved. Increasingly clinicians are aware of the social, psychological, financial, and emotional impacts of these ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Developing a thyroid cancer differentiation state classification system using deep residual networks and metabolic signature profiling

open access: yesnpj Digital Medicine
We developed a deep residual network (ResNet) framework to classify thyroid cancer differentiation states by integrating multiomic data and interpretability analysis.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Long noncoding RNA RP11‐547D24.1 regulates proliferation and migration in papillary thyroid carcinoma: Identification and validation of a novel long noncoding RNA through integrated analysis of TCGA database

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2019
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are known to be key regulators of numerous biological processes, and substantial evidence supports that abnormal lncRNA expression plays a significant role in tumorigenesis and tumor progression.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Head and neck cancer

open access: yesJournal of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, 2010
Head and neck cancer is traditionally thought of as being a disease associated with alcohol and tobacco abuse and deprivation. It was the fourth most common cancer in males in Scotland in 2000 and just over 1,000 cases were diagnosed in 2007. As smoking becomes less prevalent, a fall in the incidence of head and neck cancer could be anticipated ...

The KRT15 and KRT81 complex promotes lenvatinib resistance in thyroid cancer by upregulating DGKB mediated lipid metabolism

open access: yesScientific Reports
Lenvatinib resistance is a major clinical obstacle in the treatment of radioiodine-refractory papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Clarification of the molecular mechanisms of this resistance is of utmost importance to devise effective therapeutic strategies.
