A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

The influence of prenatal exposure to tobacco smoke on neonatal body proportions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The objective of this study was to determine neonatal anthropometric indices such as: birth weight, crown-heel length, head and chest circumference and ponderal index , in relation to the maternal smoker status (active and passive smoking). The study

High‐Resolution Genomic Resources for Trait Mapping and Precision Breeding for Adzuki Bean (Vigna angularis)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes crucial genomic resources for adzuki bean, including a reference genome, variation map, and the AdzukiBeanAtlas toolkit. We identify key candidate genes (ANKRD50, NAC73, ANR1, NPF5.4) for important agronomic traits through Genome‐Wide Association Studies (GWAS).

A Programmable, 3D Neuron‐On‐Chip Platform Integrating Near Real‐Time Biosensing and Multiaxial Loading for Mechanobiological Injury Profiling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable 3D Neuron‐Injury‐on‐a‐Chip platform integrates multiaxial mechanical loading with ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensing to decode neuronal responses in real time. By mimicking physiologically relevant extension–torsion forces, the system reveals load‐specific biomarker trajectories (T‐Tau, NFL), gene regulation, and apoptosis.

Birth size and breast cancer risk: Re-analysis of individual participant data from 32 studied [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background Birth size, perhaps a proxy for prenatal environment, might be a correlate of subsequent breast cancer risk, but findings from epidemiological studies have been inconsistent.

High-energy head-on collisions of particles and hoop conjecture

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate the apparent horizon formation for high-energy head-on collisions of particles in multi-dimensional spacetime. The apparent horizons formed before the instance of particle collision are obtained analytically.

Micro Biomimetic Eyeball for Humanoid Robots: A Visual System with High‐Density Functional Integration Based on an Origami Mechanism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic eyeball system (BES) based on a 3‐DOF miniature origami mechanism, which addresses the inherent issues of large size and weight in traditional electromechanical BESs is presented. Moreover, it maintains a level of visual functionality comparable to that of the human eye, including capabilities such as rapid scanning, target recognition ...
