Patients with non-English language preference: Data from an Australian healthcare facility on reported use of professional interpreting services

open access: yesTranslation and Interpreting : the International Journal of Translation and Interpreting Research

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Training healthcare professionals to work with interpreters [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of General Practice, 2013
I was encouraged to see articles published on interpreted consultations in the February 2013 issue of the BJGP . Seale et al observed significant differences in the content of interpreted consultations as opposed to same-language consultations, including, fewer questions from the patient, less questioning of the patient agenda, less patient involvement

Quality assurance in medical translation

open access: yesJoSTrans: The Journal of Specialised Translation, 2014
Translation and interpreting help mediate knowledge in the world of medicine or pharmaceutical research, but are rarely the focus of healthcare researchers' attention unless a mistranslation triggers severe clinical consequences, including health or life

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Patient Safety, Professionalization, and Reimbursement as Primary Drivers for National Medical Interpreter Certification in the United States

open access: yesTranslation and Interpreting : the International Journal of Translation and Interpreting Research, 2013
In a medical setting, interpretation by unskilled bilingual individuals can have serious repercussions when it results in a lower standard of care for minority-language patients.

An Interactional Perspective on Interpreting as Mediation

open access: yesLingue Culture Mediazioni, 2015
The importance of mediation in dialogue interpreting has been highlighted in a number of recent studies. Franz Pöchhacker has outlined three analytical dimensions to look at interpreting as mediation: (1) linguistic/cultural mediation, including ...
