Congenital Heart Diseases: Tetralogy of Fallot, Atrial Septal Defect, and Ventricular Septal Defect

Congenital heart diseases (CHDs) represent structural abnormalities of the heart present at birth. This article provides a comprehensive overview of three common CHDs: Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).

Difference in Autonomic Nervous Control between Ventricular Septal Defect and Atrial Septal Defect Based on Heart Rate Variability

Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 2007
Background: We hypothesized that patients with atrial (ASD) and ventricular septal defects (VSD) have similarly reduced heart rate variability (HRV) since both defects cause similar increases in pulmonary blood flow and right ventricular filling pressure.

Heart transplantation after repair of postinfarction ventricular septal defect.

The Journal of cardiovascular surgery, 1996
A 68 year-old man underwent surgical repair of a ventricular septal defect following an acute myocardial infarction. Recurrent interventricular septal rupture with significant left-to-right shunting led to progressive deterioration in cardiac function and intractable heart failure.

A penetrating heart injury resulting in ventricular septal defect.

Hellenic journal of cardiology : HJC = Hellenike kardiologike epitheorese, 2011
Penetrating heart injuries can be lethal. Here we report a case of self-inflicted cardiac injury with glass fragments by a psychiatric patient. The patient presented with cardiogenic shock and was initially treated surgically for a large pneumothorax and cardiac tamponade. A few days later she presented with dyspnoea and hypotension.

Second natural history study of congenital heart defects. Ventricular septal defect: echocardiography.

Circulation, 1993
Two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography can provide structural and hemodynamic information for patients with ventricular septal defects (VSDs). Therefore, two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiographic examinations were performed on patients with VSDs returning for the Second Natural History Study of Congenital Heart Defects.Five hundred fifty-six ...

[Rhabdomyomatosis of the heart and ventricular septal defect (author's transl)].

Zeitschrift fur Kardiologie, 1977
An unusual case of cardiac rhabdomyomatosis associated with a ventricular septal defect without signs of tuberous sclerosis is described. On 3 different angiocardiographies the region of the tumor seemed to be a right ventricular aneurysm. The tumor was identified as such only on operation and its nature defined histologically. Subtotal excision of the
