Morphological Substrates for Atrial Arrhythmogenesis in a Heart With Atrioventricular Septal Defect [PDF]
Due to advances in corrective surgery, congenital heart disease has an ever growing patient population. Atrial arrhythmias are frequently observed pre- and post-surgical correction. Pharmaceutical antiarrhythmic therapy is not always effective, therefore many symptomatic patients undergo catheter ablation therapy.

Transcatheter closure of Ventricular Septal defects in Malta : initial experience [PDF]
Ventricular septal defects (VSD) consist of deficiencies of the wall separating the two ventricles. VSDs are the commonest congenital cardiac defects. Small VSDs rarely require intervention, however, larger defects cause ventricular volume overload with ...

Respiratory Organ‐on‐a‐Chip for Disease Modeling: From Architecture to Functional Integration
Respiratory organ‐on‐a‐chip (ROC) models capture key mechanical and cellular cues of the human respiratory system, enabling quantitative dissection of disease mechanisms. This review links ROC architectures to disease modeling, functional integration, and commercialization, and proposes a decision framework that aligns model complexity with mechanistic

Unlike single-gene mutations leading to Mendelian conditions, common human diseases are likely to be emergent phenomena arising from multilayer, multiscale, and highly interconnected interactions. Atrial and ventricular septal defects are the most common

Congestive heart failure in children with atrial septal defect
Summary Congestive heart failure or severe symptoms of physical disability, growth retardation, and frequent pulmonary infections may occur in children with preoperative diagnosis limited to that of atrial septal defect. At operation these patients may be found to have additional lesions demanding operative correction.
