Lignin Mimicking Protein Methylation Augments the Efficacy of FOLFOX Chemotherapy by Anchoring Thymidylate Synthase

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lignin‐mimicking protein methylation can enhance the efficacy and mitigate the toxicity of the classic FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. ABSTRACT FOLFOX has served as the standard chemotherapy regimen for advanced stages, specifically in the treatment of pancreatic, colorectal, and bladder cancers.

Extended static preservation of donor lungs at 10°C and early post-transplant outcomes: Experience from a center in the US

open access: yesJHLT Open
Introduction: An emerging body of evidence suggests that extended static preservation of donor lung allografts at 10°C yields clinical outcomes comparable to standard storage, while enabling transplantation to be performed in a semi-elective manner.

Ionizable Lipid‐Dependent Optimization of Steroid Lipid Nanoparticles With Tunable Immunomodulatory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel engineering strategy that establishes material design principles for incorporating anti‐inflammatory steroids into lipid nanoparticles to reduce LNP‐induced inflammation while retaining mRNA delivery. Results are validated in vitro and in three animal models of inflammation and autoimmunity in vivo.

Bioinspired Adaptive Surfaces for Intelligent Liquid Manipulation: Progressing From Passive and Active to Hybrid Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines passive, active, and hybrid liquid manipulation strategies, highlighting hybrid approaches as an emerging route to reconcile energy efficiency with adaptive control. By actively reconstructing passive surfaces to store programmable interfacial energy, hybrid systems enable flexible yet low‐power liquid transport, with perspectives ...

From Fiber Bundles to Architected Membranes: Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Architectures for Biohybrid Artificial Lungs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) membranes offer an architecture‐driven alternative to hollow fiber bundles in artificial lungs. Multiphysics simulations and endothelialized prototypes show that the 3D‐printable membrane architecture improves gas exchange, blood flow distribution, and hemocompatibility, enabling ...

The potential clinical implications of slow vital capacity in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive interstitial lung disease with a highly variable clinical course. Forced vital capacity (FVC) is widely used as a marker of disease severity and progression, yet its variability and dependence on ...

Interaction Between Frailty and Renal Function in Patients with Heart Failure

open access: yesLife
Background. Frailty is highly prevalent among patients with heart failure (HF) and is associated with adverse clinical outcomes. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) frequently coexists with HF and may further increase risk. However, the clinical profile linking
