Trial‐Based Hemolysis Modeling to Investigate Operating Modes of Continuous‐Flow LVADs
This work presents a methodology for determining online‐capable hemolysis models for continuous‐flow LVADs, derived from in vitro trials. The models are based on fitting a modified power law and applying the Lagrangian approach. They assist clinicians in selecting treatment strategies that minimize hemolysis, as demonstrated with the Sputnik1 LVAD ...

In Vitro Calcification Evaluation of Polycarbonate Urethane—Impact of Production Processes
The study shows that hot pressing induces chemical changes in PCU, promoting calcification, while solution‐cast patches remain unaffected. ABSTRACT Background Heart valve diseases remain a leading cause of death in industrialized nations. Polycarbonate urethane (PCU) is a promising material for heart valve prostheses due to its biocompatibility and low

Design, manufacturing and testing of a green non-isocyanate polyurethane prosthetic heart valve.
The sole effective treatment for most patients with heart valve disease is valve replacement by implantation of mechanical or biological prostheses. However, mechanical valves represent high risk of thromboembolism, and biological prostheses are prone to

The Immune Response in In Situ Tissue Engineering of Aortic Heart Valves
The gold standard for treatment of advanced heart valve disease is surgical heart valve re‐ placement. None of the currently available mechanical and bioprosthetic heart valve substi‐ tutes resembles normal heart valve function.

Hydraulic In Vitro Characterization of MR‐Conditional Blood Pumps
Cardiac surgery in neonates requires close placement of cardiopulmonary bypass machines due to limited blood volume, complicating MR compatibility. This study introduces three MR‐conditional blood pump prototypes. None interfered with MRI imaging, though RF‐related sensor effects remain untested.

Antithrombotic therapy in patients with prosthetic heart valves
The thromboembolic events are still an important complication in patients with substitution of any of the heart valves in spite of the advances obtained in the design of prostheses.

Inflammatory Cytokines as Early Predictors of Weaning Failure From Extracorporeal Life Support
Levels of IL‐8 and IL‐6 and their dynamics are reliable early predictors of ECLS weaning failure. ABSTRACT Background Weaning from extracorporeal life support (ECLS) in patients with refractory shock still remains a complex decision. Despite considerable advances in ECLS management, reliable biomarkers to predict weaning success are still not available.

Aspirin discontinuation in long‐term, stable Heart Mate 3 LVAD patients maintained on Vitamin K antagonists did not increase hemocompatibility‐related adverse events. These findings support the safety of simplified antithrombotic therapy and extend randomized evidence for aspirin avoidance to the long‐term management of Heart Mate 3 recipients ...

Percutaneous femoro‐femoral V‐A ECMO cannulation was associated with more than a two‐fold lower risk of site bleeding and nearly a six‐fold lower risk of infection compared with surgical cut‐down, with no difference in limb ischemia. Absence of distal perfusion catheterization and larger arterial cannula size were additional modifiable ischemia risk ...
