In vitro and in vivo evidence of hypouricemic and anti-inflammatory activities of Maclura cochinchinensis (Lour.) Corner heartwood extract

open access: yesJournal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, 2020
Maclura cochinchinensis (Lour.) Corner (MC) heartwood extracts have been used for the treatment of gout, hyperuricemia, and inflammation in Thai traditional medicine. Despite their traditional use, their mechanisms of action remain unknown.

Validated Near‐Infrared Spectroscopy and Chemometric Modelling for Rapid Quantification of Essential Oil Yield and α/β‐Santalol in Santalum Album L.

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
Near‐infrared spectroscopy enables rapid, non‐destructive quality assessment across diverse sample matrices. Combined with conventional chemometrics and AI/ML models, it provides accurate prediction of key quality attributes, supporting routine quality control, process optimisation, and real‐time industrial decision‐making.

Carbon‐Nutrient Interactions Under Insect Disturbance Simulated by the Land‐Surface Model QUINCY 21edff48

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Insect outbreaks significantly impact tree mortality and carbon‐nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems, yet most terrestrial biosphere models do not represent insect disturbances due to the complexity of nutrient processes and limited data. To address this gap, we implemented a new insect impacts module in the QUINCY (Quantifying Interactions ...

Tracing radioactive cesium in stem wood of three Japanese conifer species 3 years after the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science, 2020
To understand the dynamics of accident-derived radioactive cesium (137Cs) in stem wood that had a substantial amount of heartwood at the time of the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, the radial and vertical distributions of 137Cs activity ...

Alleviation of phosphorus rather than nitrogen limitation driven by permafrost and landscape effects on Dahurian larch forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 2590-2601, August 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Permafrost thaw is reshaping nutrient dynamics in boreal forests, but its impacts on tree nutrient limitation and functional strategies remain poorly understood. Clarifying these responses is crucial for predicting the response of boreal forests to climate change.

Water, starch, and nuclear behavior in ray parenchyma during heartwood formation of Catalpa bungei ‘Jinsi’

open access: yesHeliyon
Catalpa bungei ‘Jinsi’, a cultivar of C. bungei C. A. Mey., is valued for its heartwood with good overall mechanical properties, naturally durable and golden-yellow color. Little is known about heartwood formation in C. bungei ‘Jinsi’ trees. The behavior

The proportion of heartwood in conifer (Pinus sylvestris L., Picea abies [L.] H. Karst.) trunks and its influence on trunk wood moisture -

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2013
As the tree age increases, the formation of heartwood takes place in the central part of the tree. Since there is a large difference in the moisture content between sapwood and heartwood in conifers, the proportion of heartwood expressed in percentage is

Ring‐Width Dendrochronology, Isotopic Dendrochronology and Radiocarbon Dating of Timbers From the Spire Scaffold of Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire, England

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 68, Issue 4, Page 761-772, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Ten timbers from the spire scaffold of Salisbury Cathedral were dated using a combination of ring‐width dendrochronology, stable oxygen isotopic dendrochronology and radiocarbon dating. Seven timbers were coeval and assigned a combined empirical felling date range of 1352–1378, which was further refined to 1351–1359 (OxCal 95.4%).

Chemical Characterization and In Vivo Safety Assessment of Aqueous Extract From Anacardium occidentale L. (Anacardiaceae) Leaves

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 7, July 2026.
Anacardium occidentale leaf aqueous extract showed rich polyphenolic composition, including flavonoids, tannins, and phenolic acids. Acute toxicity in mice revealed no mortality or adverse effects, with LD50 >2000 mg/kg and GHS Class 5. Genotoxicity assays were negative, supporting safety and potential phytopharmaceutical development, pending chronic ...
