Dynamics Near the Inner Dead-Zone Edges in a Proprotoplanetary Disk [PDF]
We perform three-dimensional global non-ideal magnetohydrodynamic simulations of a protoplanetary disk containing the inner dead-zone edge. We take into account realistic diffusion coefficients of the Ohmic resistivity and ambipolar diffusion based on detailed chemical reactions with single-size dust grains.

A Study of Lightning Activity over Different Ecological Zones of Nepal [PDF]
In the present work, occurrence of lightning activity over different ecological zones of Nepal has been studied. It has been observed that Lower Tropical zone receives lightning strikes with largest value of density of strikes whereas the Trans-Himalayan zone receives lightning strikes with least value of density of strikes.

A Case‐Based Reasoning Approach to Model Manufacturing Constraints for Impact Extrusion
A hybrid modeling approach is presented that combines constraint‐based process modeling and case‐based reasoning. The model formalizes manufacturing constraints and integrates simulation data to model complex manufacturing processes. The approach supports manufacturability analysis during product design through an adaptive modeling environment.

Fracture of drilling head pipe connection due to quenching of heat affected zone (HAZ)
The drilling head pipe connection is made of quenched and tempered steel 34CrNiMo6. The steel characteristic is high hardenability. Due to unsuitable and untested welding technology the heat affected zone (HAZ) cooling rate after welding surpassed the ...

High-Power Laser Cutting of Steel Plates: Heat Affected Zone Analysis
The thermal effect of CO2 high-power laser cutting on cut surface of steel plates is investigated. The effect of the input laser cutting parameters on the melted zone depth (MZ), the heat affected zone depth (HAZ), and the microhardness beneath the cut ...

Stacked Multilevel Fresnel Zone Plates for Hard X-Rays [PDF]
The new type of multilevel Fresnel zone plate, consisting of stacked layers with bi-level zone profile has been investigated. The conditions of layers acting as single multilevel Fresnel zone plate have been discussed by numerical simulation. The criteria for layers alignment have been presented.

Assessing the Ecological Value: Monetizing Process Innovations in Tailored Forming
This article introduces a method for evaluating the sustainability of innovations, even with limited data. The method is illustrated through an analysis of the “Tailored Forming” technology, which explores the impact of sustainability on economic value added.

Microstructural investigation of the heat-affected zone of simulated welded joint of P91 steel
In the process of testing real components exposed to elevated temperature, it is not possible to neglect cracks. The most significant cracks can be induced by welding, which is applied for joining of structural components.

Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

Inferring Microclimate Zones from Energy Consumption Data [PDF]
Climate zones are an established part of urban energy management. California is divided into 16 climate zones, for example, and each zone imposes different energy-related building standards -- so for example different zones have different roofing standards. Although developed long ago, these zones continue to shape urban policy.
