Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter Drives Chemoresistance in Pancreatic Cancer via Glutathione‐Mediated Stemness Maintenance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PDAC has a poor prognosis due to chemoresistance. We revealed that MCU upregulation is associated with chemoresistance and stemness in PDAC. MCU‐mediated Ca2+ influx induced ER stress, activating the PERK‐ATF4/NRF2 axis to enhance PSAT1/SLC711 expression and glutathione synthesis, reducing ROS and maintaining stemness.

Hawaiian Picture‐Winged Drosophila Exhibit Adaptive Population Divergence along a Narrow Climatic Gradient on Hawaii Island [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
1. Anthropogenic influences on global processes and climatic conditions are increasingly affecting ecosystems throughout the world. 2. Hawaii Island’s native ecosystems are well studied and local long‐term climatic trends well documented, making these ...

Chromatin Topology Reconfiguration Orchestrates Thermotolerant Male Fertility via GhAL5 in Cotton

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates cotton’s high‐temperature (HT) response using multi‑omics. Dynamic 3D genome changes drive expression bias affecting male fertility. The tolerant line shows controlled chromatin dynamics, while the sensitive line exhibits overactivation.

The 70 kDa heat shock protein protects against experimental traumatic brain injury

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2013
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes disruption of the blood brain barrier (BBB) leading to hemorrhage which can complicate an already catastrophic illness. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) involved in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix may lead to

Expandable Nanocomposite Shape‐Memory Hemostat for the Treatment of Noncompressible Hemorrhage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanocomposite‐coated shape memory foam rapidly expands, accelerates clotting, and reduces blood loss in vivo. Its fast volumetric expansion and strong procoagulant activity make it a promising hemostat for treating deep, noncompressible hemorrhage.

Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

Two Novel S‐methyltransferases Confer Dimethylsulfide Production in Actinomycetota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies two novel S‐adenosine‐methionine‐dependent methyltransferases, MddM1 and MddM2, in actinomycetes from the Mariana Trench. These enzymes can convert toxic hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and methanethiol (MeSH) into dimethylsulfide (DMS), serving as a cellular detoxification and oxidative stress response.

Investigation of 70-kDa heat shock protein in the serum and urine of patients with chronic glomerulonephritis

open access: yesТерапевтический архив, 2014
AIM: To determine the levels of 70-kDa heat shock protein (HSP70) in urine and anti-HPS70 antibodies (Abs) in serum and to assess their clinical and prognostic value in patients with different forms of chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN)/MATERIAL AND ...

Les protéines de choc thermique (heat shock proteins). I : Classification, structure, fonctions et implications dans les processus pathologiques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
All living systems have evolved mechanisms to maintain homeostasis in the face of rapid environmental changes. When exposed to elevated temperatures, most of the cells activate the synthesis of a specific group of proteins called Heat Shock Proteins ...

HRS Degradation‐Induced Nicotinamide Deficiency in Placental Extracellular Vesicles Triggers Preeclampsia by Disrupting Maternal‐Fetal Immune Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that lower NAM levels in PE‐derived pEVs correlate with disease severity. NAM‐deficient pEVs reduce Th1 and Th17 inhibition, leading to PE‐like symptoms. NAM in pEVs inhibits Th1 via SIRT1 and Th17 via macrophages. Reduced NAM in PE‐EVs is due to decreased HRS expression in trophoblasts, resulting from elevated HSP27.
