Climate Change as a Chronic Stressor: Biological and Psychological Pathways Linking Environmental Change to Human Well-Being

open access: yesLife
Climate-related hazards are associated with adverse mental and physical health outcomes, but exposure-specific human findings are often discussed together with general stress mechanisms without clearly distinguishing their evidentiary strength.

Heat exposure induces tissue stress in heat-intolerant, but not heat-tolerant, mice

open access: yesStress, 2012
We investigated the association of systemic and local tissue stress responses with heat-tolerant (TOL) levels in mice. Thirty-eight mice were assigned into control and three heat exposure groups-TOL, moderately tolerant, and intolerant (INT), based on their overall thermal responses.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

An investigation on graphene and nanoclay effects on hybrid nanocomposites post fire dynamic behavior

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2010
This paper deals with the post fire behavior of hybrid nanocomposites under dynamic loadings. A series of tests were performed to investigate how nanoparticles (i.e.

The Effects of Heat Exposure on Human Mortality Throughout the United States

open access: yesGeoHealth, 2020
Exposure to high ambient temperatures is an important cause of avoidable, premature death that may become more prevalent under climate change. Though extensive epidemiological data are available in the United States, they are largely limited to select ...

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Extreme heat and the risk of fatal industrial accidents: nationwide evidence from China

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Extreme heat poses a growing threat to occupational safety under accelerating climate change, yet evidence of its effects on severe and fatal industrial accidents remains limited.

Cohort Profile for the Heat in Pregnancy- India (HiP-India) Study [version 2; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research
Background Extreme heat exposure — defined as sustained ambient temperatures exceeding local thresholds — has been associated with several adverse pregnancy outcomes, including preterm birth, stillbirth, gestational diabetes and small for gestational age.

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

The VHL tumor suppressor at the crossroad of protein folding, aggregation, and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Mutations, environmental stress, and chaperone dysfunction can destabilize pVHL, promoting its conversion from the native folded state into amyloid‐like assemblies. This transition may contribute to protein storage, cell dormancy, survival, and drug resistance.
