Protein folding in mitochondria requires complex formation with hsp60 and ATP hydrolysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Mitochondrial heat-shock protein hsp60 functions in the folding of proteins imported into mitochondria. Folding occurs at the surface of hsp60 in an ATP-mediated reaction, followed by release of the bound polypeptides.

Synergistic Effect of Carbon Nanotubes and Decabromodiphenyl Oxide/Sb\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3eO\u3csub\u3e3\u3c/sub\u3e in Improving the Flame Retardancy of Polystyrene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Brominated flame retardant polystyrene composites were prepared by melt blending polystyrene, decabromodiphenyl oxide, antimony oxide, multi-wall carbon nanotubes and montmorillonite clay. Synergy between carbon nanotubes and clay and the brominated fire

Two Faces of NOTCH1 in Childhood Lymphoblastic T‐Cell Neoplasia: Prognostic Divergence of Mutational and Structural Aberrations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In pediatric patients, T‐cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T‐LBL) survival exceeds 80%. Relapse remains associated with limited curative options. Frontline treatment is largely extrapolated from T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) treatment, reflecting the ongoing debate, whether both entities represent distinct diseases or variants within ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The fire retardant effects of huntite in natural mixtures with hydromagnesite [PDF]

open access: yes
The fire retardant effects of natural mixtures of huntite and hydromagnesite have been investigated. As well as being entirely natural these mixtures of minerals can be considered “greener” and more environmentally friendly, in their production methods ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Estimation of Heat Release and In-Cylinder Pressure in Diesel Engines from Basic Testbed Data

open access: yesEnergies
The present paper proposes a novel approach for the estimation of the in-cylinder pressure and heat release in diesel engines from basic testbed measurements (i.e., brake mean effective pressure (BMEP), gross indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP360 ...

Thermal Energy Generation in the Earth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We show that a recently introduced class of electromagnetic composite particles can explain some discrepancies in observations involving heat and helium released from the earth. Energy release during the formation of the composites and subsequent nuclear

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Solar Energy Storage by Molecular Norbornadiene–Quadricyclane Photoswitches: Polymer Film Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2019
Devices that can capture and convert sunlight into stored chemical energy are attractive candidates for future energy technologies. A general challenge is to combine efficient solar energy capture with high energy densities and energy storage time into a
