Experimental and numerical prediction of extrusion load at different lubricating conditions of aluminium 6063 alloy in backward cup extrusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In the present research work using a backward cup extrusion (BCE) die profile, different lubricating conditions on aluminum alloy AA6063 have been experimentally and numerically investigated to predict the extrusion load.

Influence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic on the incidence of heat stroke and heat exhaustion in Japan: a nationwide observational study based on the Heatstroke STUDY 2019 (without COVID‐19) and 2020 (with COVID‐19)

open access: yesAcute Medicine & Surgery, 2022
Aim To assess heat stroke and heat exhaustion occurrence and response during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in Japan. Methods This retrospective, multicenter, registry‐based study describes and compares the characteristics of patients between the ...

On the applicability of empirical heat transfer models for hydrogen combustion engines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines are being investigated as an alternative for current drive trains because they have a high efficiency, near-zero noxious and zero tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions.

Susceptibility-weighted imaging in heat stroke. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
OBJECTIVE: To assess the role of susceptibility-weighted imaging in the detection of intracranial hemorrhage after heat stroke and in the prognosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study group consisted of eight patients after heat stroke, with a score of 3 ...

Transient Analysis of a Magnetic Heat Pump [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
An experimental heat pump that uses a rare earth element as the refrigerant is modeled using NASTRAN. The refrigerant is a ferromagnetic metal whose temperature rises when a magnetic field is applied and falls when the magnetic field is removed. The heat

Energetics and performance of a microscopic heat engine based on exact calculations of work and heat distributions

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate a microscopic motor based on an externally controlled two-level system. One cycle of the motor operation consists of two strokes. Within each stroke, the two-level system is in contact with a given thermal bath and its energy levels are ...

An efficient non-linear Feshbach engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate a thermodynamic cycle using a Bose-Einstein condensate with nonlinear interactions as the working medium. Exploiting Feshbach resonances to change the interaction strength of the BEC allows us to produce work by expanding and compressing ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Boosting capacitive blue-energy and desalination devices with waste heat

open access: yes, 2014
We show that sustainably harvesting 'blue' energy from the spontaneous mixing process of fresh and salty water can be boosted by varying the water temperature during a capacitive mixing process.

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.
