Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Heat Transfer in Furnace of 1 000 MW Coal-fired Unit Under Different Load Conditions

open access: yes发电技术, 2019
A 3D coupled mathematical model of 1 000 MW ultra-supercritical tower boiler was established. Based on the design parameters of the boiler, the model calculated the flow and heat transfer process of the boiler in operation. The model was used to simulate

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Numerical investigation on flow and convective heat transfer of aviation kerosene at supercritical conditions

open access: yes, 2013
avier-Stokes equations were solved using RNG k-epsilon turbulence model with low Reynolds number correction. The thermophysical and transport properties of the China RP-3 kerosene were calculated with a 10-species surrogate and the extended corresponding

Numerical investigation of heat transfer in parallel channels with water at supercritical pressure

open access: yesHeliyon, 2017
Thermal phenomena such as heat transfer enhancement, heat transfer deterioration, and flow instability observed at supercritical pressures as a result of fluid property variations have the potential to affect the safety of design and operation of ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

On assessment of heat transfer deterioration of a channel with supercritical n-decane for scramjet engines cooling

open access: yes, 2019
To explore the local heat transfer deterioration (HTD) behavior in cooling channels with the endothermic hydrocarbon fuel for a scramjet engine, the flow and thermal performance of a rectangular channel cooled by supercritical hydrocarbon fuel are ...
