Investigation of cylinder deactivation and variable valve actuation on gasoline engine performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Increasingly stringent regulations on gasoline engine fuel consumption and exhaust emissions require additional technology integration such as Cylinder Deactivation (CDA) and Variable valve actuation (VVA) to improve part load engine efficiency.

Upcycling Keratin‐Based Textile Waste Into High‐Performance Hybrid Fibers Via Tuning the Interfacial Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Keratin recovered from animal‐hair textile waste is fractionated and blended with cellulose to produce continuously spun hybrid fibers. Selecting the high‐molecular‐weight keratin fraction enables 30 wt.% keratin incorporation while maintaining high strength in dry and wet states.

A parametric study on the elastic-plastic deformation of a centrally heated two-layered composite cylinder with free ends

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2016
In this paper, an elastic-plastic deformation of a centrally heated two-layered composite cylinder with free ends subjected to uniformly distributed internal energy generation within an inner cylinder is studied using Tresca's yield condition and its ...

Deciphering the Photopolymerization‐Induced Nanostructures and Interface Formation for Submicrometer Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work reveals the UV‐curing‐induced monomer‐rich domain, oligomer‐rich domain, and entangled oligomer domain. The cured submicron films in stressed state induce interlayer nano‐wrinkle structures during the deposition of the second layer. Stress‐free cured films in relaxed state form non‐diffusive, diffusive and semi‐diffusive interlayer ...

Natural convection heat transfer from a vertical cylinder in liquid sodium

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2014
Natural convection heat transfer from a vertical cylinder in liquid sodium was experimentally studied. Two test cylinders of different dimensions were used. They were 7.62 and 17.51 mm in diameter, and 186 and 257 mm in heated length, respectively.

On the Distribution of Temperature in the Neighbourhood of Heated Cylinder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
application/pdfThe distribution of temperature in the neighbourhood of a heated cylinder was observed quantitatively by the Michelson Interferometer and when the half part of the curved surface of cylinder was coated with the soot how to change of the ...

Nitride MXenes Beyond Carbides: Bridging the Gap Between Computational Prediction and Experimental Realization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nitride MXenes remain constrained by a persistent gap between computational prediction and experimental realization. This Review identifies the thermodynamic, kinetic, and chemical barriers limiting their synthesis, critically evaluates emerging fabrication routes, and proposes a multidimensional computational‐experimental framework to accelerate the ...

A numerical study of an inline oscillating cylinder in a free stream [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Simulations of a cylinder undergoing externally controlled sinusoidal oscillations in the free stream direction have been performed. The frequency of oscillation was kept equal to the vortex shedding frequency from a fixed cylinder, while the amplitude ...

Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.
