A Novel Approach to Estimate the Transition Temperature via Dynamic Nanoindentation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new dynamic nanoindentation‐based method was developed that uses the stiffness ratio as an indicator of the elastic–plastic deformation contributions at different temperatures. The approach successfully identified transition temperatures in ferritic steel and distinguished them from continuously ductile austenitic steel.

Cryogenic Deformation Behavior of TiAl and Insights Into Embrittlement After High‐Temperature Exposure Combined With Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy of Near Surface Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Near‐surface deuterium enrichment profiles for different microstructural types of TiAl after exposure at 700 °C in a heavy water‐containing environment. The deuterium levels are significantly higher than expected from natural occurrence, indicating that the heavy water dissociated during the exposure treatment and entered the specimens.

Numerical simulation of flow around an orbiting cylinder at different ellipticity values [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper deals with the numerical simulation of low Reynolds number flow (Re=120–180) past a circular cylinder in orbital motion. The Navier–Stokes equations, pressure Poisson equations and continuity are written in primitive variables in a noninertial

The Role of Ultra‐Thin Passive Films and Organic Adsorbates on Aluminum Chips for a Friction‐Induced Solid‐State Recycling Process

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Despite benefits to storage stability and handleability of aluminum scrap, octadecyl phosphonic acid (ODPA) SAMs reduce the tensile strength of wires produced using friction‐induced recycling. Etching and methyl diphosphonic acid (MDPA) coatings, however, have little effect.

Analysis of flow around a heated circular cylinder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The objective of this study is to investigate the forced convection from and the flow around a heated cylinder. This work presents experimental and computational results for laminar flow around a heated circular cylinder. The experiments were carried out

An empirical investigation into enhancing natural convection heat transfer through corona wind in a needle-to-cylinder configuration

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Enhancing natural convection heat transfer in heated electrical devices, particularly those with curved geometries and limited space for cooling systems is a crucial area of research.

Rotary 3D Printing With Integrated Electroplating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A rotary material extrusion platform integrates localized copper electroplating with printing and encapsulation to fabricate cylindrical polymer–metal structures containing fully embedded, low‐resistance conductive pathways that enable internal Joule heating and thermally activated shape‐memory responses.

Flow transition behind a heated cylinder

open access: yes, 2002
For more than a century the wake flow behind a cylinder has been the subject of many investigations. Most attention has been focussed on the first instability and the transition towards 3D for the flow around an unheated cylinder.

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Pulsating flow and convective heat transfer in a cavity with inlet and outlet sections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper deals with the study of 2-D, laminar, pulsating flow inside a heated rectangular cavity with different aspect ratios. The cooling liquid (water with temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity) comes and leaves the cavity via ...
