Λ hyperon polarization in relativistic heavy ion collisions from a chiral kinetic approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Using a chiral kinetic approach based on initial conditions from a multiphase transport model, we study the spin polarizations of quarks and antiquarks in noncentral heavy ion collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.

Double-slit experiment at Fermi scale: Coherent photoproduction in heavy-ion collisions [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review C, 2018
The double-slit experiment has become a classic thought experiment, for its clarity in expressing the central puzzle of quantum mechanics -- wave-particle complementarity.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Inclusive J/ψ production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 5.02 TeV

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
Inclusive J/ψ production is studied in minimum-bias proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 5.02 TeV by ALICE at the CERN LHC. The measurement is performed at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.9) in the dielectron decay channel down

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Probing vorticity structure in heavy-ion collisions by local $Λ$ polarization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We study the local structure of the vorticity field and the $\Lambda$ polarization in Au+Au collisions in the energy range $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=$ 7.7-200 GeV and Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=$ 2760 GeV using A Multi-Phase Transport ...

Homologous expression and purification of human HAX‐1 for structural studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol provides detailed instructions for cloning, expressing, and purifying large quantities of the intrinsically disordered human HAX‐1 protein, N‐terminally fused to a cleavable superfolder GFP, from mammalian cells. HAX‐1 is predicted to undergo posttranslational modifications and to interact with membranes, various cellular ...

Heavy ion ranges from first-principles electron dynamics

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials, 2019
The effects of incident energetic particles, and the modification of materials under irradiation, are governed by the mechanisms of energy losses of ions in matter.

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...
