Effects of manual brushing on 10-year survival and growth of Douglas-fir in the mixed broadleaf – shrub complex of southern interior British Columbia

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 2020
Manual brushing is used to minimize the competitive effects of paper birch (Betula papyrifera Marsh) and associated broadleaved trees on young Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca) in southern interior British Columbia.

The effect of leader damage on lodgepole pine site tree height growth

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 2017
Site index is an important parameter in forest management. Selecting good site trees is critical for both developing and applying models to estimate site index. Along with other characteristics, site trees must be free of damage so that the growth of the

Cluster reforestation near the timber line

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2011
Plantation of spruce in clusters (small collectives with 20-30 individuals with dense spacing) was realized on a small clear-cut and under the forest stand near the timber line in the Krkonoše Mts. in 1993.

Normalization of puberty and adult height in girls with Turner syndrome: results of the Swedish Growth Hormone trials initiating transition into adulthood

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2023
ObjectiveTo study the impact of GH dose and age at GH start in girls with Turner syndrome (TS), aiming for normal height and age at pubertal onset (PO) and at adult height (AH). However, age at diagnosis will limit treatment possibilities.MethodsNational

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

The first Polish provenance experiments with silver fir Abies alba Mill.

open access: yesLeśne Prace Badawcze, 2019
Silver fir Abies alba Mill. provenance trials started in Poland a few years after Pavari (1951) proved that the origin of this tree species influences its genetic variability.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Accelerated Height Growth Versus Mortality of Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. in Hungary

open access: yesSouth-East European Forestry, 2019
Background and Purpose: Due to climate change, it is important to know to what extent forests will be impacted by atmospheric changes. This study focuses on the height growth response of sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl.) to counteracting ...
