Counterintuitive Fluorescence Blue Shift in Symmetry Breaking Dicationic Bis(indolium) with Two‐Photon Absorption Properties for NIR Living Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble dicationic bis(indolium) dyes have been prepared, showing excellent two‐photon absorption and light emission. Their fluorescence behavior discloses an unusual increasing blue shift with increasing solvent polarity, which, in parallel, is beneficial for enhanced detection in biological media.

Polycationic Lipids Translocate Lipopolysaccharide into HeLa Cells

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2000
We have investigated the ability of LipofectAMINE™, a polycationic lipid reagent used in DNA transfection, to translocate E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) into HeLa cells.

EFFECT OF DACTYLARIN ON HELA CELLS

open access: yesThe Journal of Antibiotics, 1974
Dactylarin is a new antiprotozoal antibiotic which also exhibits cytotoxic activity. The decrease of mitotic index in treated HeLa cells indicates that the antibiotic inhibition is expressed prior to mitosis. Dactyiarin inhibited the progression or G2 cells into mitosis.

Bioorthogonal Photoactivation of 2‐Nitrobenzyl Caged Doxorubicin Anticancer Prodrugs on Gold Nanostars

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bioorthogonal chemistry was applied to intracellularly photoactivate Doxorubicin (Dox) using gold nanostars (AuNSt) and near‐infrared (NIR) light. Two prodrugs were used: one photoactivatable, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl carbamate (proDox1) and another photolabile, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl diol (proDox2), which was attached to the AuNSt surface.

Optimizing A Lipocomplex-Based Gene Transfer Method into HeLa Cell Line [PDF]

open access: yesCell Journal, 2013
One of the most significant steps in gene expression studies is transferring genes into cell cultures. Despite there are different methods for gene delivery such as viral and non-viral producers, some cationic lipid reagents have recently developed to ...

DNA helicase IV from HeLa cells

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1991
Human DNA helicase IV, a novel enzyme, was purified to homogeneity from HeLa cells and characterized. The activity was measured by assaying the unwinding of 32P labeled 17-mer annealed to M13 ss DNA. From 440g of HeLa cells we obtained 0.31 mg of pure protein. Helicase IV was free of DNA topoisomerases, DNA ligase and nuclease activities.

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.

Phospholipase D promotes Arcanobacterium haemolyticum adhesion via lipid raft remodeling and host cell death following bacterial invasion

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2010
Background Arcanobacterium haemolyticum is an emerging bacterial pathogen, causing pharyngitis and more invasive infections. This organism expresses an unusual phospholipase D (PLD), which we propose promotes bacterial pathogenesis through its action on ...

Architecture of an All‐In‐One Microfluidic Platform for Accelerated Cancer Seeding, Enhanced Spheroid Formation, and Dynamic Drug Screening Trials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one microfluidic platform consists of two‐layered PDMS channels integrated with a hydrogel microwell array. This platform enables flow‐driven tumor cell capture, enhanced spheroid formation within the microwells, and advective drug testing. ABSTRACT Effective cancer drug screening requires platforms that replicate the physiological complexity
