The occurrence of residual stresses in helical piles

2015
Residual stresses generated during the pile installation are usually observed and considered in the interpretation of conventional pile load tests. However, in the case of helical piles, residual stresses can be generated by previous loadings. At the end of the unloading stage in tension tests, the shaft resistance is reversed, and the helices are ...

Physical modelling of helical screw piles in sand

2010
Empirical correlations between installation torque and uplift capacity of helical screw piles are frequently employed as a procedure for on site quality control of this type of foundation. In this work a theoretical relationship between uplift capacity and installation torque of deep helical screw piles in sand is proposed.

Thinking Bigger – 32-Storey Building on Helical Piles

Deep Foundations Institute 49th Annual Conference Proceedings
Helical piles have often been characterized as handy little tools in the toolbox of solutions for structural support of foundations. They have provided options to construct foundations and anchorage in very challenging locations where more common methods were impractical.
