Convergent evolution of metabolic functions: Evidence from the gut microbiomes of humans and dogs

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Dogs have undergone convergent evolution in their genome with humans in long‐term co‐living. Studies have shown that the gut microbiomes of dogs exhibit greater similarity to those of humans compared to mice and pigs. In our study, we first compared the gut microbiomes of macaques, three dog groups, and two wolf groups to those in humans.

The role of the host—Neutrophil biology

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophils) are myeloid cells packed with lysosomal granules (hence also called granulocytes) that contain a formidable antimicrobial arsenal. They are terminally differentiated cells that play a critical role in acute and chronic inflammation, as well as in the resolution of inflammation and wound ...

Correlation property of length sequences based on global structure of complete genome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper considers three kinds of length sequences of the complete genome. Detrended fluctuation analysis, spectral analysis, and the mean distance spanned within time $L$ are used to discuss the correlation property of these sequences.

The microbiology of Helicobacter pylori

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, 1997
Helicobacter pylori was first isolated only in 1983, but has rapidly gained an extraordinary prominence in gastroenterology and medical microbiology. It lives only in the human stomach beneath the mucin layer which protects it from the lethal effects of gastric acid.

Can Albumin/Lymphocyte Ratio and MPV/Lymphocyte Ratio Serve as New Inflammatory Biomarkers in Patients With Hyperemesis Gravidarum?

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
The development of new parameters related to the inflammatory processes of hyperemesis gravidarum will be important for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. We believe that our study results are important for adding Albumin/Lymphocyte ratio and MPV/Lymphocyte ratio, which have not been previously investigated in hyperemesis gravidarum patients ...

Europe's contribution to the evaluation of the use of systemic antimicrobials in the treatment of periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This narrative review celebrates Europe's contribution to the current knowledge on systemically administered antimicrobials in periodontal treatment. Periodontitis is the most frequent chronic noncommunicable human disease. It is caused by dysbiotic bacterial biofilms and is commonly treated with subgingival instrumentation.
