Vibration and Performance Analyses Using Individual Blade Pitch Controls for Lift‐Offset Rotors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
This work attempts to reduce the hub vibratory loads of a lift‐offset rotor using IBC (individual blade pitch control) in high‐speed forward flight. As a lift‐offset rotor for the present study, the rigid coaxial rotor of a XH‐59A compound helicopter is considered and CAMRAD II is used to predict the hub vibration and rotor performance.

Intelligent Situational Control of Small Turbojet Engines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Improvements in reliability, safety, and operational efficiency of aeroengines can be brought in a cost‐effective way using advanced control concepts, thus requiring only software updates of their digital control systems. The article presents a comprehensive approach in modular control system design suitable for small gas turbine engines.

Active Flow Control in a Radial Vaned Diffuser for Surge Margin Improvement: A Multislot Suction Strategy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
This work is the final step of a research project that aims at evaluating the possibility of delaying the surge of a centrifugal compressor stage using a boundary‐layer suction technique. It is based on Reynolds‐Averaged Navier‐Stokes numerical simulations. Boundary‐layer suction is applied within the radial vaned diffuser.

Coordinating a Service Supply Chain under Arms Offset Program’s Intervention by Performance‐Based Contracting

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
This paper investigates a support service supply chain for coordinating with a local third‐party logistics provider by arms offset program’s intervention and develops a performance‐based contracting framework for the coordinating problem, which remains scarce in the literatures. The performance‐based contracting framework evaluates payments and profits

Fuel Cells: A Real Option for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Propulsion

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
The possibility of implementing fuel cell technology in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) propulsion systems is considered. Potential advantages of the Proton Exchange Membrane or Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEMFC) and Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFC), their fuels (hydrogen and methanol), and their storage systems are revised from technical and ...

Evaluation of the Potential of Recuperator on a 300-kW Turboshaft Helicopter Engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In this thesis, an integrated rotorcraft multidisciplinary simulation framework has been developed to comprehensively evaluate the potential of the rotorcraft adopting a recuperator under various flight conditions as well as at mission levels. Through the execution of multi-objective genetic algorithm (GA) optimization, the Pareto front model is ...

Fuel Weight Fraction Estimation for a Disk–Rotor Hybrid Aircraft Along an Optimal Flight Trajectory During Concept Design

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Owing to the transition flight of rotor/wing hybrid vertical take‐off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, the fuel weight cannot be estimated from empirical data during the conceptual design phase. This paper proposes a method for estimating the minimal fuel weight fraction (FWF) through a strategy of trajectory optimization under a given flight profile.
