Peripheral genetic structure of Helicoverpa zea indicates asymmetrical panmixia [PDF]
AbstractSeasonal climatic shifts create peripheral habitats that alternate between habitable and uninhabitable for migratory species. Such dynamic peripheral habitats are potential sites where migratory species could evolve high genetic diversity resulting from convergence of immigrants from multiple regionally distant areas.

Susceptibility of Field and Laboratory Bt-Susceptible and Resistant Strains of Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) to HearNPV. [PDF]
During 2021 and 2022, eight field-collected and five laboratory Helicoverpa zea strains with varying susceptibility to different Bt proteins were evaluated for their responses against HearNPV using diet-overlay bioassays.

Gene transfer into corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea) embryos. [PDF]
Transposable elements with short inverted repeats at their termini have been identified in a number of diverse insect species and have proven to be useful gene delivery vectors for the transformation of Drosophila melanogaster. In this report we examine the ability of the D. melanogaster hobo element to transpose in lepidopteran species. A Trichoplusia

A Multiplex Real-Time PCR Assay to Diagnose and Separate Helicoverpa armigera and H. zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in the New World. [PDF]
The Old World bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner), and the corn earworm, H. zea (Boddie), are two of the most important agricultural pests in the world. Diagnosing these two species is difficult-adults can only be separated with a complex dissection,

Bt agave: why it is time to explore a new biotechnological frontier
Drylands cover 41% of Earth, requiring sustainable crops. Agave, drought‐ and heat‐adapted, offers high‐value products with low water needs. Pests limit yield, yet Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry proteins, successful in other plants, remain unexploited in Agave.

The complete nucleotide sequence of Helicoverpa zea single-nucleocapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (HzSNPV) has been determined (130869 bp) and compared to the nucleotide sequence of Helicoverpa armigera (Ha) SNPV. These two genomes are very similar in their nucleotide (97% identity) and amino acid (99% identity) sequences.
