Time damping of non-adiabatic magnetohydrodynamic waves in a partially ionized prominence plasma: Effect of helium

open access: yes, 2009
Prominences are partially ionized, magnetized plasmas embedded in the solar corona. Damped oscillations and propagating waves are commonly observed. These oscillations have been interpreted in terms of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves.

Helium identification with LHCb

open access: yesJournal of Instrumentation
Abstract The identification of helium nuclei at LHCb is achieved using a method based on measurements of ionisation losses in the silicon sensors and timing measurements in the Outer Tracker drift tubes. The background from photon conversions is reduced using the RICH detectors and an isolation requirement.

Photoresponsive Gas‐Permeable Membranes: Fundamentals, Innovations, and Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photoresponsive gas‐permeable membranes can be potentially used for smart packing, carbon capture, hydrogen purification, and optical gas valves due to their remote and non‐contact activation, precise spatial and temporal control, and reversible switching capabilities.

PAMELA Measurements of Cosmic-Ray Proton and Helium Spectra [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2011
Satellite measurements challenge the current understanding of cosmic-ray acceleration and propagation in our Galaxy. Protons and helium nuclei are the most abundant components of the cosmic radiation.

Electric-field-induced helium-helium resonances

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2019
The tunability of the helium-helium interaction through an external electric field is investigated. For a static external field, electric-field induced resonances and associated electric-field induced bound states are calculated for the $^4$He-$^4$He, $^3$He-$^4$He, and $^3$He-$^3$He systems. Qualitative agreement is found with the literature for the $^

Ion‐Selective Microporous Membranes via One‐Step Copolymerization Enable High‐Performance Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable one‐step copolymerization strategy is developed to produce low‐cost microporous ion exchange membranes that boost both the efficiency and lifespan of flow batteries. When combined with organic electrolytes in aqueous systems, these membranes enable safe and cheap flow battery energy storage, supporting the widespread integration of renewable

Confinement Driven Spin‐Texture Evolution in Directly Written Nanomagnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spin‐texture is directly written by triggering lattice ordering locally at the nanoscale. Geometric confinement drives the formation of spin‐textures such as Néel walls with perpendicular core spins, essential for technological applications. Abstract In low‐dimensional magnetic structures, magnetostatic energy minimization yields a uniform spin‐texture,

A first-principles study of helium storage in oxides and at oxide--iron interfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Density-functional theory calculations based on conventional as well as hybrid exchange-correlation functionals have been carried out to study the properties of helium in various oxides (Al2O3, TiO2, Y2O3, YAP, YAG, YAM, MgO, CaO, BaO, SrO) as well as at

Highly Selective Toward HER or CO2RR by Regulating Cu Single and Dual Atoms on g‐C3N4

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This systematic study provides insights into the design of electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and carbon dioxide reduction (CO2RR). It serves as a useful guide for tuning catalyst architecture toward efficient multifunctional performance by varying synthetic parameters, demonstrating the impact of copper (Cu) species ranging from ...
