Improved modelling of helium and tritium production for spallation targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Reliable predictions of light charged particle production in spallation reactions are important to correctly assess gas production in spallation targets.

Swelling at high radiation damage levels of 120 and 240 dpa in 3.5 MeV self-ion irradiated ferritic/martensitic steels

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
The swelling behavior of ferritic/martensitic steels (FC92–B/-N, HT9, and Gr.92) was investigated following 3.5 MeV Fe++ ion irradiation. Tested alloys were helium-pre-implanted up to the peak contents of 120 and 240 appm with He/dpa ratio of 1 appm/dpa ...

Neutron-induced dpa, transmutations, gas production, and helium embrittlement of fusion materials

open access: yes, 2013
In a fusion reactor materials will be subjected to significant fluxes of high-energy neutrons. As well as causing radiation damage, the neutrons also initiate nuclear reactions leading to changes in the chemical composition of materials (transmutation ...

Effect of high dose helium ion irradiation on the surface microstructure of a new neutron multiplying Be−W alloy

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2020
A neutron multiplier must be employed to obtain the proper tritium breeding rate and ensure the self-sustaining combustion of deuterium and tritium in fusion reactors, which represents a new and powerful solution for the energy problem.

Enhanced irradiation swelling resistance in low activation Ti8VCrMnFeCu2 high entropy alloys: Exploring the role of heterogeneous nanoparticles

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This study presents an in-depth analysis on the microstructural evolution of the low-activation Ti8VCrMnFeCu2 alloy under helium irradiation. The irradiation-induced vacancies and the change of Cu nanoprecipitates were characterized using slow positron ...

Orientation-dependent indentation response of helium-implanted tungsten

open access: yes, 2019
A literature review of studies investigating the topography of nano-indents in ion-implanted materials reveals seemingly inconsistent observations, with report of both pile-up and sink-in.

How the Carrier Mobility and Seebeck Coefficient of Doped Semiconducting Polymers Are Controlled by Counterion Interactions and Mesoscale Order

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional doping of P3HT with F4TCNQ results in poor charge transport. However, when F4TCNQ is exchanged with LiTFSI, the transport characteristics are greatly enhanced. We find the increase in charge transport is directly related to an increase in the mesoscale ordering of P3HT, resulting in longer and better‐connected transport pathways.

Helium irradiation induced micro-swelling and phase separation in pyrochlore Lu2Ti2O7 [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2015
Abstract Polycrystalline pyrochlore Lu2Ti2O7 was irradiated with 200 keV He+ ions at room temperature to fluences ranging from 2.0 × 1015 to 2.0 × 1017 He+/cm2. Irradiation-induced microstructural evolution was examined by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy.

Effect of CO2 on coal P-wave velocity under triaxial stress

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2022
As P-wave velocity is sensitive to the variations in coal reservoir parameters, it is possible to monitor the injected CO2 through P-wave velocity during CO2 sequestration in coal.

Activation and radiation damage in the environment of hadron accelerators

open access: yes, 2013
A component which suffers radiation damage usually also becomes radioactive, since the source of activation and radiation damage is the interaction of the material with particles from an accelerator or with reaction products.
