Lucid dreams: Their advantage and disadvantage in the frame of search activity concept

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Search activity (SA) is the behavioral and mental activity that is oriented to changes of the environment or of the subject’s view and approach to the environment according to personal needs without the definite probability forecast of the outcomes of ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Learned helplessness in the development of at-risk behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The research problem that guided this study was to describe how a number of the strategies to address at-risk student behavior are also leading to the development of learned helplessness in the same target population.

Reversal of Learned Helplessness by Peripheral Arousal [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
The response deficit produced by uncontrollable shock has been termed learned helplessness. Many studies have demonstrated similarities between human depression and learned helplessness.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
