A single cycle influenza virus coated in H7 hemagglutinin provides heterotypic protection and neutralising antibody responses to both glycoproteins

open access: yes, 2017
AbstractA non-replicating form of pseudotyped influenza virus, inactivated by suppression of the hemagglutinin signal sequence (S-FLU), can act as a broadly protective vaccine. S-FLU can infect for a single round only, and induces heterotypic protection predominantly through activation of cross-reactive T cells in the lung.

A baculovirus dual expression system-based vaccine confers complete protection against lethal challenge with H9N2 avian influenza virus in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Avian influenza viruses of H9N2 subtype have become highly prevalent in avian species. Although these viruses generally cause only mild to moderate disease, they can infect a wide variety of species, including chickens, quail, turkeys, ducks ...

Broadly protective bispecific antibodies that simultaneously target influenza virus hemagglutinin and neuraminidase

open access: yesmBio
Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are an attractive therapeutic platform for the prevention and treatment of influenza virus infection. There are two major glycoproteins on the influenza virion surface: hemagglutinin (HA), which is responsible for viral ...

Antibody contributes to heterosubtypic protection against influenza A-induced tachypnea in cotton rats

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2008
Background Influenza virus infection or vaccination evokes an antibody response to viral hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) surface glycoproteins, which results in immunity against influenza A viruses of the same HA and NA subtype.

Reconstruction of H3N2 influenza virus based virosome in-vitro

open access: yesIranian Journal of Microbiology, 2013
Background and Objectives: Virosomes are Virus Like Particles (VLP) assembled in-vitro. Influenza virosomes maintain the cell binding and membrane fusion activity of the wild type virus but are devoid of viral genetic material or internal proteins ...

Carbohydrate masking of an antigenic epitope of influenza virus haemagglutinin independent of oligosaccharide size [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Comparison of the haemagglutinins (HA) of the pathogenic avian influenza viruses A/FPV/Dutch/27 (H7N7) and A/FPV/Rostock/34 (H7N1) revealed 94.7% nucleotide and 93.8% amino acid sequence homologies.

Clonal variation in cell surface display of an H-2 protein lacking a cytoplasmic tail [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Truncated variants of the gene encoding H-2Ld, an integral membrane protein encoded by the major histocompatibility complex, were constructed by in vitro mutagenesis to elucidate the function of charged amino acids found on the cytoplasmic side of the ...

The role of stearate attachment to the hemagglutinin-esterase-fusion glycoprotein HEF of influenza C virus.

open access: yesCellular microbiology, 2016
The only spike of influenza C virus, the hemagglutinin-esterase-fusion glycoprotein (HEF) combines receptor binding, receptor hydrolysis and membrane fusion activities. Like other hemagglutinating glycoproteins of influenza viruses HEF is S-acylated, but only with stearic acid at a single cysteine located at the cytosol-facing end of the transmembrane ...

Identification of Low- and High-Impact Hemagglutinin Amino Acid Substitutions That Drive Antigenic Drift of Influenza A(H1N1) Viruses.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2016
Determining phenotype from genetic data is a fundamental challenge. Identification of emerging antigenic variants among circulating influenza viruses is critical to the vaccine virus selection process, with vaccine effectiveness maximized when ...

Post-translational processing of the glycoproteins of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Intracellular events in the synthesis, glycosylation, and transport of the lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) glycoproteins have been examined. We have shown by N-glycanase digestion that LCMV strain Arm-4 bears five oligosaccharides on GP-1 and ...
