Urinary Hematin Calculi

Journal of Urology, 1991
We report 2 cases of nephrolithiasis owing to hematin stones. One patient had no apparent explanation for this finding, while the other was receiving warfarin anticoagulation for a prosthetic aortic valve. The chemical nature, etiology and clinical features of hematin calculi are discussed.

Hematin therapy in porphyric attacks

Klinische Wochenschrift, 1980
We report our experience with hematin in the treatment of 57 patients in porphyric attacks. The ratio of acute intermittent porphyria: variegate porphyria: hereditary coproporphyria was 43:11:3. More than 90% of the patients showed not only a decline in their porphyrin precursors, but also a favor able clinical response.

Shotgun Hematinic Therapy

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1978
Among the numerous throw-aways that the mailman delivers to my door are advertisements from pharmaceutical companies concerning drugs and related products. I recently received a set of complimentary starter prescriptions for a certain drug for the treatment of "iron deficiency anemia and megaloblastic anemia." The drug is composed of ferrous fumarate,

Shotgun Hematinic Therapy

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1979
To the Editor.— Regarding the article by Fred Rosner, in the July issue of theArchives(138:1129, 1978) on shotgun hematinic therapy, I certainly concur, at least in spirit, with the idea that shotgun hematinic therapy is to be eschewed. It is unfortunate, however, that the author compromised his legitimacy by rambling and making statements that, to my

PEROXIDASE, HEMATIN, AND PEGYLATED-HEMATIN CATALYZED VINYL POLYMERIZATIONS IN WATER

Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part A, 2001
Horseradish peroxidase-, hematin- and pegylated-hematin mediated polymerization of sodium styrene sulfonate and sodium acrylate in water is reported. Molecular weight and yields were influenced by the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and initiator, 2,4-pentanedione.

Hematin toxicity in rats

Toxicology Letters, 1978
The toxicity of intravenously administered hematin (3.4 and 6 mg100 g) was investigated in rats, where an LD50 of 4.32 mg100 g was computed, with 95% confidence limits of 5.40 and 3.46 mg100 g. At toxic levels (4 mg100 g) the rats showed a drop of blood pressure, hemorrhages and renal failure, whereas lower doses were well tolerated.

Investigations of B- and β-hematin

Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 1997
The preparation from ferriprotoporphyrin IX (FP) in aqueous acid medium of the related pigments beta- and B-hematin [see G. Blauer and M. Akkawi, Biochem. Mol. Biol. Int. 35, 231 (1995)] is presented under different conditions. Both pigments are characterized by infrared spectra which differ in the range of 1600-1700 cm-1 in their strong bands with ...

B-hematin.

Biochemistry and molecular biology international, 1995
Very rapid production in vitro of a particular type of hematin (B-hematin) with high yield at physiological pH and temperature is presently reported, using a simple chemical system including an organic acid in the absence of any enzyme. B-hematin is characterized by infrared spectra and solubility properties.

Micro-Raman high-pressure investigation on the malaria pigment hematin anhydride (β-hematin)

Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 2018
The effect of pressure on the Raman and fluorescence spectra of hematin anhydride (β-hematin) is reported. In a diamond-anvil cell, DAC, with applied pressures up to 41 kbar, the Raman spectrum undergoes a series of intensity enhancements and increases in energy for many of the Raman-active bands up to a pressure of ~27 kbar. At higher pressures, there

Effect of hematin in porphyric neuropathy

Neurology, 1977
Early, intravenous administration of hematin in a patient with acute intermittent porphyria and severe quadriparesis may have produced partial but remarkable improvement of neuropathy, and resulted in simultaneous decline of porphyrin precursors in the blood.
