Hematin formation and pancreatitis [PDF]
Abstract Production of hematin from hemoglobin in vitro is augmented by a mixture of powdered pancreatic enzymes and human pancreatic juice. Those enzymes which most affected the rate of conversion of hemoglobin to hematin were lipase, elastase, and trypsin. These same enzymes were also most active in hematin production from red cells.

Photoacoustic spectroscopy of β-hematin [PDF]
Malaria affects over 200 million individuals annually, resulting in 800,000 fatalities. Current tests use blood smears and can only detect the disease when 0.1-1% of blood cells are infected. We are investigating the use of photoacoustic flowmetry to sense as few as one infected cell among 10 million or more normal blood cells, thus diagnosing ...

On 3 separate occasions, infusions of hematin (4 mg/kg) induced thrombocytopenia, prolongation of the prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time. Reptilase time,
