Hemocyanin of the caenogastropod Pomacea canaliculata exhibits evolutionary differences among gastropod clades.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Structural knowledge of gastropod hemocyanins is scarce. To better understand their evolution and diversity we studied the hemocyanin of a caenogastropod, Pomacea canaliculata (PcH).

The Evolution of Hemocyanin Genes in Caenogastropoda : Gene Duplications and Intron Accumulation in Highly Diverse Gastropods

open access: yes, 2021
Hemocyanin is the oxygen transport protein of most molluscs and represents an important physiological factor that has to be well-adapted to their environments because of the strong influences of abiotic factors on its oxygen affinity.

Biomolecular changes that occur in the antennal gland of the giant freshwater prawn (Machrobrachium rosenbergii).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
In decapod crustaceans, the antennal gland (AnG) is a major primary source of externally secreted biomolecules, and some may act as pheromones that play a major role in aquatic animal communication.

Unusual oxygen binding behaviour of a 24-meric crustacean hemocyanin.

open access: yes, 2010
Hemocyanins from Crustacea usually are found as 1 x 6 or 2 x 6-meric assemblies. An exception is the hemocyanin isolated from thalassinidean shrimps where the main component is a 24-meric structure.

Gene and expression analysis of the hexamerin family proteins from the grasshopper, Locusta migratoria (Orthoptera: Acridoidea)

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2017
Hexamerins are large hemolymph-proteins that have been discovered in all insect species. According to the present study, hexamerins are not only storage proteins that provide amino acids and energy, but also transport hormones such as ecdysteroids.

Emperor scorpion hemocyanin crystal.

open access: yes, 2013
The crystals have the form of small bipyramids and grow to a maximum dimension of 500 µm within weeks after their appearance. The light blue color of the crystals indicated that hemocyanin molecules in the crystal are at least partially oxygenated.

Color morphology of Diaphorina citri influences interactions with its bacterial endosymbionts and 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus'.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Diaphorina citri is a vector of 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus,' (CLas), associated with Huanglongbing, (HLB, or citrus greening) disease in citrus. D. citri exhibits three different color morph variants, blue, gray and yellow.

A putative link between phagocytosis-induced apoptosis and hemocyanin-derived phenoloxidase activation

open access: yes, 2013
Apoptosis and phagocytosis are crucial processes required for developmental morphogenesis, pathogen deterrence and immunomodulation in metazoans. We present data showing that amebocytes of the chelicerate, Limulus polyphemus, undergo phagocytosis-induced

Comparison between two methods of scorpion venom milking in Morocco

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2013
Background The present study compared two methods used successfully in a large-scale program for the collection of scorpion venoms, namely the milking of adult scorpions via manual and electrical stimulation.
