Endotoxin-Retentive Filters for the Online Preparation of Ultrapure Dialysis Fluid and Non-Pyrogenic Substitution Fluid: A Critical Review and Reference Guide

open access: yesMembranes
Poor water treatments and concentrates to prepare dialysis fluids favor bacterial growth-producing pyrogens (e.g., endotoxins) that may cross hemodialysis, particularly high-flux, membranes.

Effect of increased convective clearance by on-line hemodiafiltration on all cause and cardiovascular mortality in chronic hemodialysis patients – the Dutch CONvective TRAnsport STudy (CONTRAST): rationale and design of a randomised controlled trial [ISRCTN38365125]

open access: yesCurrent Controlled Trials in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2005
Background The high incidence of cardiovascular disease in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) is related to the accumulation of uremic toxins in the middle and large-middle molecular weight range. As online hemodiafiltration (HDF) removes these

Hemodiafiltration in Pentobarbital Poisoning

open access: yesRenal Failure, 1996
We report the use of continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHD) in a case of massive intentional ingestion of pentobarbital associated with severe coma and hypotension. Despite a poor hemodynamic state, toxic epuration (15% of drug ingested) was obtained. However, death occurred 7 hr after the end of treatment.

A Study on the Safety and Efficacy of an Innovative Hydrophilic Dialysis Membrane

open access: yesMembranes
The dialysis membrane based on a hydrophilic polymer (Hydrolink NV) was designed to enhance the movement of adsorbed water at the blood–membrane interface, aiming to achieve antithrombogenic and antifouling effects.

New Hydrophilic Helixone Dialyzers as an Alternative for Hemodialysis Patients With Membrane Hypersensitivity Reactions: A Retrospective Single‐Cohort Study

open access: yesHemodialysis International, Volume 30, Issue 2, Page 359-365, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Synthetic dialysis membranes, particularly those composed of polysulfone blended with polyvinylpyrrolidone, are commonly used in hemodialysis due to their efficiency. However, hypersensitivity reactions—often atypical and not fitting traditional type A and B classifications—have increasingly been reported.

Analysis of 2-Year Survival Outcomes of Japanese Older Populations on Hemodiafiltration: A Propensity Score-Matched Study Based on Insurance Claims Data

open access: yesKidney and Dialysis
Despite the lack of evidence that suggests hemodiafiltration (HDF) offers a better survival outcome than standard hemodialysis (HD), the number of patients initiating HDF in Japan continues to rise.

Success in Achieving Relatively High Targeted Convection Volumes in Multi‐Ethnic Individuals Receiving Hemodiafiltration in Singapore

open access: yesHemodialysis International, Volume 30, Issue 2, Page 305-312, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Hemodiafiltration has demonstrated improved outcomes in end‐stage kidney disease, particularly with higher convection volumes than conventional hemodialysis. However, data on multiethnic Asian populations remain limited.

Dose-dependent effect of continuous erythropoietin receptor activator on cardiac autonomic nervous activity and cardiovascular events in patients treated with online hemodiafiltration

open access: yesZaporožskij Medicinskij Žurnal, 2019
The purpose of the work was to determine the effect of continuous erythropoietin receptor activator (CERA) on the autonomic regulation of cardiac activity and cardiovascular events in patients treated with online hemodiafiltration (HDF). Materials and

Low‐Volume Plasma Exchange for Fulminant Hepatic Failure Secondary to Hepatitis A in a Young Adult: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Acute liver failure accounts for a very fatal and severe complication. It is defined as acute liver injury with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and an elevated international normalized ratio (INR above 1.5). There are multiple factors that can lead to acute liver failure.
