Relation between hemoconcentration status and readmission plus mortality rate among Iranian individuals with decompensated heart failure

open access: yesInternational Journal of Preventive Medicine, 2020
Background: Hemoconcentration (HC) has been suggested to be a useful biomarker for determination of optimum diuretic therapy in acute heart failure (HF), but role of this factor in rehospitalization and death was still controversial.

Comparison of Hemoglobin Correction Effects According to Storage Period and Other Factors in the Transfusion of Packed Red Blood Cells in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Patients [PDF]

open access: yesNeonatal Medicine, 2018
Purpose Preterm infants frequently require red blood cell (RBC) transfusions in neonatal intensive care units (NICU). Storage RBCs undergo many changes during storage periods.

Hemoglobin I: An Inherited Hemoglobin Anomaly [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1955
Abstract A hitherto undescribed hemoglobin anomaly has been detected in a North Carolina Negro family. This new hemoglobin, designated type I, which has been electrophoretically characterized, was found in combination with normal adult A hemoglobin in 6 of 17 members of one family.

Neocytolysis: How to Get Rid of the Extra Erythrocytes Formed by Stress Erythropoiesis Upon Descent From High Altitude

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Neocytolysis is the selective destruction of those erythrocytes that had been formed during stress-erythropoiesis in hypoxia in order to increase the oxygen transport capacity of blood.

Effect of liganded hemoglobin S and hemoglobin A on the aggregation of deoxy-hemoglobin S.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1982
The effect of the carbonmonoxy forms of Hb S and Hb A on the solubility and kinetics of the aggregation of deoxy-Hb S in concentrated phosphate buffer was studied. The delay time was prolonged exponentially when the ratios of CO-Hb S and CO-Hb A to deoxy-Hb S were increased.

Hemoglobin E disease and glycosylated hemoglobin

open access: yesIndian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2015
Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) is a routinely measured parameter to monitor long-term glycemic control in people with diabetes mellitus. The presence of hemoglobin (Hb) variants can affect the accuracy of HbA1C methods. Hb E variant is the most common Hb variant in South-east Asia and North-east India.

A Novel Alternating Joint Longitudinal Model for Post-ICU Hemoglobin Prediction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Anemia is common in patients post-ICU discharge. However, which patients will develop or recover from anemia remains unclear. Prediction of anemia in this population is complicated by hospital readmissions, which can have substantial impacts on hemoglobin levels due to surgery, blood transfusions, or being a proxy for severe illness.

Following red blood cells in a pulmonary capillary [PDF]

open access: yesESAIM: Proc., 2008, Vol. 23, pp. 48-65, 2007
The red blood cells or erythrocytes are biconcave shaped cells and consist mostly in a membrane delimiting a cytosol with a high concentration in hemoglobin. This membrane is highly deformable and allows the cells to go through narrow passages like the capillaries which diameters can be much smaller than red blood cells one. They carry oxygen thanks to
