Staphylococcal β-Hemolysin II. Phospholipase C Activity of Purified β-Hemolysin
Journal of Bacteriology, 1967Sheep erythrocyte ghosts released water-soluble organic phosphorus when treated with purified β-hemolysin. Phospholipid analysis demonstrated that sphingomyelin accounted for 53% of the phospholipids present in sheep erythrocytes. Purified β-hemolysin showed phospholipase C activity when purified ox brain or sheep erythrocyte sphingomyelin

Antistaphylococcal hemolysins and delta hemolysin inhibitor in adult human serum
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1969The quantities of antistaphylococcal hemolysins in sera from 105 adult humans were determined. Ninety-six percent of the samples contained detectable levels of anti-alpha hemolysin and 80% contained anti-beta hemolysin. All sera had a similar quantity of delta hemolysin inhibitor. This inhibitory factor is believed to be serum lipid and not antibody.

The production of a hemolysin by organisms belonging to the proteus group was demonstrated by Kraus and Clairmont ' in 1900. Later reports have been made by Glaessner and Roscules,2 Bachrach and Grafe,3 Kostrzewski,4 Shuster,5 Baerthlein,6 Bach,7 Braun and Choa Shi-Tsing 8 and Ecker and Brittingham.' Identification of staphylococcal epsilon hemolysin
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1972The culture filtrate of the M-3 strain of Staphylococcus epidermidis when electrophoresed at 5 mA/cm for [Formula: see text] in Ion agar No. 2 using barbitol buffer pH 8.4 revealed a hemolysin which migrated 14 mm towards the anode and lysed human and rabbit erythrocytes. This hemolysin is designated as the epsilon hemolysin of staphylococci.

Antigenicity of Dermatophilus Congolensis Hemolysin
Journal of Veterinary Medicine, Series B, 1993SummaryThe separated cell‐free form of hemolytic exosubstance was obtained from five strains of Dermatophilus congolensis. Three strains produced exosubstance with high activity, two strains produced exosubstance with lower intensity of activity. The separated forms exhibited the same hemolytic interactions as the native forms produced by growing ...

Saphylococcal beta-hemolysin. I. Purification of beta-hemolysin.
Journal of bacteriology, 1967The purification of staphylococcal beta-hemolysin was accomplished by the successive use of three protein fractionation methods. The first method employed was a double precipitation with the use of ammonium sulfate at 65% saturation. The second phase of purification used Sephadex G-100 column fractionation. The third phase utilized either carboxymethyl

Identification of staphylococcal delta-hemolysin
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1971Staphylococcal δ-hemoIysin is identified electrophoretically as a hemolytic entity which, when electrophoresed at 5 mA/cm for 2 h in Ionagar No. 2 using barbital buffer, pH 8.4, remained mainly at the origin with tailing towards the anode and completely lysed human, horse, and rabbit erythrocytes.

PURIFICATION OF STAPHYLOCOCCAL ALPHA-HEMOLYSIN
Journal of Bacteriology, 1962Madoff, MortonA. (New England Center Hospital, Boston, Mass.)and Louis Weinstein. Purification of staphylococcal alpha-hemolysin. J. Bacteriol.83:914–918. 1962. — Staphylococcal alpha-toxin has been purified by metal-ion precipitation, column chromatography, and continuous-flow paper electrophoresis. The resultant preparation is highly unstable.

The hemolysin of escherichia coli
European Journal of Epidemiology, 1988Many strains of E. coli elaborate a hemolysin which is responsible for the zone of beta-hemolysis surrounding bacterial colonies on blood agar. The significance of this cytolysin as a determinant of bacterial pathogenicity has been established in animal models with the use of genetically engineered, isogenic bacterial strains.
