Computer-aided hepatic tumour ablation [PDF]

open access: yesLecture notes in computer science (LNCS) 2208 (2001) 1145-1146, 2006
Surgical resection of hepatic tumours is not always possible. Alternative techniques consist in locally using chemical or physical agents to destroy the tumour and this may be performed percutaneously. It requires a precise localisation of the tumour placement during ablation.

Classification of Hepatic Lesions using the Matching Metric [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
In this paper we present a methodology of classifying hepatic (liver) lesions using multidimensional persistent homology, the matching metric (also called the bottleneck distance), and a support vector machine. We present our classification results on a dataset of 132 lesions that have been outlined and annotated by radiologists.

Soluble Thrombomodulin Is Associated With Endothelial Dysfunction Syndromes After Pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is challenged by endothelial dysfunction‐related syndromes like sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS), capillary leak syndrome (CLS), and severe acute graft‐versus‐host disease (aGvHD). We investigated soluble thrombomodulin (sTM), an endothelial damage marker, in relation to

P- 17 FRAILTY AND COVERT HEPATIC ENCEPHALOPATHY IN CIRRHOTIC PATIENTS AT A THIRD LEVEL HOSPITAL IN GUATEMALA

open access: yesAnnals of Hepatology, 2023
Introduction and Objectives: In Guatemala, liver cirrhosis has a mortality rate of 41 per 100,000 inhabitants. Diminished physical reserve (frailty) is an important prognostic factor, largely determined by sarcopenia, which in turn has a role in the ...

The Prognostic Significance of Handgrip Strength in Cirrhosis: Simplicity Is the Ultimate Sophistication

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
The advantages to measure handgrip strength (HGS) are simple, convenient, noninvasive, cost‐effective, and easy to be widely carried out during daily clinical practice. Mounting evidence demonstrates that muscle strength measured by HGS is a feasible and reliable metric to evaluate nutritional status, as well as relevant cirrhosis‐related complications

Short‐ and long‐term outcomes of polyethylene band attenuation of congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunts in dogs: 60 cases (2010‐2020)

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, Volume 63, Issue 12, Page 882-889, December 2022., 2022
Objectives To report the short‐ and long‐term outcomes following attenuation of congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunts in dogs using a novel polyethylene band. Materials and Methods Records were retrospectively reviewed for dogs that underwent congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt attenuation by a polyethylene banding technique, at a single

Multiple Concomitant Precipitating Factors of Hepatic Encephalopathy Are Associated With a Poor Prognosis in Patients With Cirrhosis Admitted to Intensive Care Unit

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Management of hepatic encephalopathy relies on the identification and control of precipitating factors (PF). The prognostic value of a PF is unknown, which we aimed to explore. Patients and Methods Single‐center retrospective study of cirrhotic patients included in a prospective cohort admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU ...

Targeted temperature management in acute liver failure: A systematic review

open access: yesNursing in Critical Care, Volume 27, Issue 6, Page 784-795, November 2022., 2022
Abstract Background Targeted temperature management is the modern term for therapeutic hypothermia, where cooling is induced by intensive care clinicians to achieve body temperatures below 36°C. Its use in acute liver failure to improve refractory intracranial hypertension and patient outcomes is not supported by strong quality evidence.
