Loss of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) usually indicates that hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been cured. However, little is known about factors predicting HBsAg loss in patients who spontaneously clear hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg).We studied 390 Taiwanese HBeAg-positive patients with chronic hepatitis who had spontaneously cleared HBeAg ...

Longer lamivudine (LAM) consolidation therapy after hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) seroconversion has been demonstrated to reduce the cumulative relapse rate. However, the optimal interval of LAM consolidation therapy remains controversial. We evaluated the post-treatment durability of LAM-induced HBeAg seroconversion and the length of LAM consolidation

AbstractWe report the case of a baby born to a hepatitis B virus (HBV) carrier mother. This infant had a hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) in the serum until 6 months of age. Serial sera samples were analysed for HBV markers. No breakthrough of HBV infection was detected.

The presence of the hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) and antibody to HBeAg (anti-HBe) was studied by a solid-phase radioimmunoassay in 70 patients with acute hepatitis positive for hepatitis B surface antigen. HBeAg was found in 15 of 16 patients studied within two weeks after onset of symptoms. In total, 45 patients were found positive for HBeAg.

Factors affecting clearance of hepatitis B e antigen in hepatitis B surface antigen carrier children
The Journal of Pediatrics, 1989To understand the natural history of chronic hepatitis B virus infection in children, we studied factors affecting the clearance of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg). One hundred sixty-nine apparently healthy children whose sera were positive for HBeAg and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and who were recruited by screening were followed prospectively ...

Seroconversion from Hepatitis B e Antigen in Chronic Type B Hepatitis
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1981Excerpt To the editor: I read with great interest the paper by Hoofnagle and associates (1). Information on the natural history of type B chronic hepatitis is welcomed by anyone treating patients w...

A third antigenic specificity associated with HBV infection, designated as e antigen or HBeAg, was found in the sera of some individuals with acute or chronic hepatitis as detected by immunodiffusion (51, 52, 459). The screening of HBsAg positive sera from hemodialysis patients for this antigen revealed a close correlation between the presence of e ...

AbstractBackgroundHepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroconversion in HBeAg −ve chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection is rare, possibly due to poor antigen processing and impaired humoral response. We investigated the role of dendritic cells (DCs), T follicular helper (TFH) cells and plasma B cells in seroconversion.MethodsHBeAg −ve (n=135) CHB ...

Hepatitis B surface antigen is usually secreted by infected hepatocytes in the form of subviral particles rather than infectious virions, while the hepatitis B e antigen originates from the core gene and is modified and secreted by hepatocytes into the circulation and functions as a marker of active viral replication.
