Duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) is a member of the hepadna virus family. In this review we have attempted to summarize the current knowledge of the molecular biology of DHBV and its use in hepadna virus research. DHBV has attracted considerable attention because ducks are the only domesticated animals in which hepadna viruses can be studied.

In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the recurrence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection after liver transplantation for HBV and HBV+HDV co-infection.Data from patients infected with HBV and HBV+HDV who underwent liver transplantation between March 2003 and June 2013 at the Liver Transplantation Institute of Inonu ...

HBV disease is a significant cause of acute and chronic liver disease worldwide. Mother-to-infant transmission is the main mode of transmission to susceptible subjects, which can be prevented with HBV vaccine alone or in combination with hepatitis B immunoglobulin. This intervention markedly reduces the number of new HBsAg carriers.

Hepatitis B Virus DNA in Fulminant Hepatitis B
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1986Excerpt Patients with fulminant hepatitis B have hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) detected for shorter periods than do patients with nonfulminant infections, an...

To evaluate the effect of hepatitis delta virus on the level of replication of hepatitis B virus and to assess the clinical significance that such an effect might have on the final outcome of the infection, the serological profile of hepatitis B virus DNA was investigated in 153 patients with acute or chronic hepatitis B virus

Hepatitis B Virus Morphogenesis
1996Hepatitis B viruses, or hepadnaviruses (hepatotropic DNA viruses), comprise a family of small enveloped DNA viruses that replicate through reverse transcription of an RNA intermediate; their replication cycle is hence a cyclic permutation of that of retroviruses which are RNA viruses replicating through a DNA intermediate.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a worldwide health problem and may cause acute, fulminant, chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, or hepatocelullar carcinoma (HCC). Infection with HBV in infancy or early childhood may lead to a high rate of persistent infection (25-90%), while the rates are lower if infection occurs during adulthood (5-10%).

The study by B. S. Blumberg on the polymorphism of human antigens led to the discovery in 1964 of the viral cause of hepatitis, a disease of the liver in humans (Blumberg 1977). The experimental approach used by Blumberg was to search for antibodies to antigens in the peripheral blood of patients who had received a large number of blood transfusions ...
