Emergence of highly profibrotic and proinflammatory Lrat+Fbln2+ HSC subpopulation in alcoholic hepatitis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Lrat+ quiescent hepatic stellate cells (qHSC) give rise to Lrat+Fbln2+ activated HSC (aHSC) in alcohol‐associated hepatitis and this subpopulation is highly profibrotic, inflammatory, and immunoregulatory based on their single cell transcriptomic profile. Abstract Background and Aims Relative roles of HSCs and portal fibroblasts in alcoholic hepatitis (

Hepatitis C virus infection and related liver disease: the quest for the best animal model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) making the virus the most common cause of liver failure and transplantation.

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Leveraging corona virus disease 2019 vaccination to promote hepatitis C screening

open access: yesHepatology Communications, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Health care initiatives, such as hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening, have been greatly overshadowed by the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. However, COVID‐19 vaccination programs also provide an opportunity to engage with a high volume of people in a health care setting.

SHOULD INTERFERON THERAPY BE INSTITUTED IN ACUTE HEPATITIS C AND NEEDLE-STICK INJURY ? A SUGGESTED THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

open access: yesJournal of the Dow University of Health Sciences, 2008
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) has the unique ability to self mutate its surface antigen so that the previously formed host antibodies become ineffective.

Palmitic Acid Promotes Antiviral Innate Immunity via ZDHHC20‐Mediated CMPK2 Palmitoylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolites have important functions in innate immune activation and regulation. Wang et al. uncover metabolic regulation of antiviral immunity through CMPK2 palmitoylation, which regulates CMPK2 mitochondrial localization and is promoted by ZDHHC20 but reversed by PPT1, inhibition of which antagonizes viral infection in mice.

Factors associated with cardiovascular events after simultaneous liver–kidney transplant from the US Multicenter Simultaneous Liver–Kidney Transplant Consortium

open access: yesHepatology Communications, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Cardiovascular disease is a leading complication after both liver and kidney transplantation. Factors associated with and rates of cardiovascular events (CVEs) after simultaneous liver–kidney transplant (SLKT) are unknown. This was a retrospective cohort study of adult SLKT recipients between 2002 and 2017 at six centers in six United Network ...

Neutralizing Antibodies and Pathogenesis of Hepatitis C Virus Infection

open access: yesViruses, 2012
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. The interplay between the virus and host innate and adaptive immune responses determines the outcome of infection.
