Seroprevalence of hepatitis C antibody in Peru
Journal of Medical Virology, 1992AbstractThe prevalence in Peru of antibody to hepatitis C virus (anti‐HCV) was determined in a survey of populations living in the northern jungle region and in groups at high risk of parenterally and sexually transmitted diseases. All sera were initially screened for anti‐HCV using commercial first and second generation ELISAs; repeatedly reactive ...

Hepatitis C virus antibody and hepatitis C virus replication in chronic hepatitis B patients
Journal of Hepatology, 1994We assessed hepatitis C virus infection in 156 chronic hepatitis B patients using second-generation hepatitis C virus antibody (anti-HCV). Active virus replication was further investigated in anti-HCV-positive cases by means of polymerase chain reaction assay for the detection of serum hepatitis C virus RNA.

IgM antibody to hepatitis C virus in acute and chronic hepatitis C
Hepatology, 1991To assess possible role of testing for IgM-specific antibody in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with hepatitis C, we tested sera from 14 patients with acute and 97 patients with chronic non-A, non-B hepatitis for IgG and IgM antibody to hepatitis C virus.

Antibodies to Hepatitis C Virus in Kidney Transplantation
Nephron, 1992Ninety patients on dialysis, 241 cadaveric kidney donors and 27 cadaveric kidney recipients with a follow-up of 2 years, have been investigated as for anti-HCV positivity by means of 3 tests. As for patients on dialysis and cadaveric donors, the prevalence was 32 and 4%, respectively.

Anti-hepatitis C virus antibody prevails in fulminant hepatic failure
Gastroenterologia Japonica, 1990Serial serum samples obtained from 27 patients with fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) in a variety of etiology were tested for anti-hepatitis C virus antibody (anti-HCV). Seven out of 10 patients (70%) with FHF due to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection were positive for anti-HCV, showing a significantly higher rate than that in acute HBV hepatitis (0/17 ...

Hepatitis C virus replication and antibody responses toward specific hepatitis C virus proteins
Hepatology, 1994We assessed the correlation between hepatitis C virus replication and antibody responses toward hepatitis C virus core (C22-3), NS3 (C33C), NS4 (5-1-1 and C100-3) and NS5 proteins in 59 virus carriers. The concentration of serum hepatitis C virus RNA was determined by a competitive reverse transcription-polymerase chain ...

Anti-hepatitis C virus antibodies and hepatitis C virus viraemia in haemodialysis patients
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, 1993Abstract Sera from 82 haemodialysis patients were tested for anti-HCV, HCV-RNA, and HBsAg. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activity was monitored weekly for 2 months. Anti-HCV was positive in 31 patients (37.8%), showing different single-peptide patterns. HCV-RNA was detected in 26 anti-HCV-positive patients (84%) and also in two of 21

Recombinant immunoblot assay for hepatitis C virus antibody in chronic hepatitis
1992Testing for hepatitis C virus by ELISA requires confirmation by recombinant immunoblot assay (RIBA). The first-generation RIBA uses the same antigen as used in the ELISA and one further antigen. A second-generation RIBA in which two further antigens are present, detects positivity that is not found by either the ELISA or the original RIBA. Consequently,
