Delta-hepatitis

The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 1995
Investigations were conducted for serological evidence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis D virus (HDV) infections in children suffering from acute viral hepatitis. A total of 52 serum samples were analysed by enzyme immunoassay. Of these, 18 (24%) were positive for hepatitis B virus markers and 34 (65.4%) were negative. Delta virus infection was

Delta Agent Hepatitis

Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, 1987
Since its chance discovery a mere decade ago, the delta agent has been characterized as a novel pathogen that poses the risk of developing into a scourge of modern times. With its unique single-stranded circular RNA, exclusive dependence on HBV for its replication, and characteristic ability to suppress hepatitis B synthesis, the delta agent has ...

Hepatitis delta in patients hospitalized in Spain (1997–2018)

AIDS (London), 2021
Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text Background: Hepatitis delta is the most aggressive form of chronic viral hepatitis. We examined the clinical burden, epidemiological features and time trends for hepatitis delta patients hospitalized ...

REVIEW: Hepatitis delta

Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, 1997
The causative agent of hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is the most unusual of all causative agents for all hepatitis viruses. Current knowledge of the molecular biology of HDV strengthens its proposed classification within the satellites, a family of subviral agents, some of which are pathogens of higher plants.

Hepatitis D (Delta)

Seminars in Liver Disease, 2012
The hepatitis D virus (HDV) is unique in animal virology. It is the smallest of human pathogens, re- quires the HBsAg capsid of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) to assembly into infectious virions, and parasitizes the transcriptional machinery of the host. Hepatitis D is ubiquitous but prevalence varies throughout the world.

Type D (Delta) Hepatitis

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1989
In the ten years since the delta agent was discovered, major advances have been made in the understanding of its structure, genomic organization, replicative cycle, clinical course, and epidemiology. The recent breakthroughs in cloning of the HDV genome and development of animal models for study of this agent promise to transform these advances in ...

Long‐term clinical outcomes in patients with chronic hepatitis delta: the role of persistent viraemia

Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2019
Chronic hepatitis delta is a severe liver disease with rapid progression to cirrhosis. The impact of hepatitis delta virus (HDV)‐RNA on disease progression and interferon treatment in a real‐world cohort has been barely explored.

Delta Virus Hepatitis

1989
The Hepatitis Delta Virus (HVD) occupies a unique niche in humai virology. At variance with conventional animal viruses, it cannot replicate autonomously but requires the presence of the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) to initiate infection. It behaves like a defective interfering agent, in that it ihibits the synthesis of the competent HBV helper once its ...

Delta Hepatitis and the Hepatitis Delta Virus

1989
Since its discovery in 1977 by Rizzetto and co-workers from Turin, Italy, the hepatitis delta virus (HDV) has become a focus of worldwide interest—interest almost equal to its worldwide importance.1, 2 The delta antigen, which first appeared to be a poorly explained finding of immunofluorescence staining in liver biopsies from Italian chronic hepatitis
